i think by using those cams you better buy a magnetic oil plug for your oil pan. sorry to say buddy but those cams have been proven to eat your rockers and cause alot of damadge. should have saved for blox. dont use them unless you like flushing money down the toilet. SORRY THIS IS OFF TOPIC BUT I WOULD HATE TO SEE THIS GUYS BUILD GO TO ****.

how many of you true street car guys do long distance trip (say 500 miles each way) driving with your stock sleeve b20vtec build? reason i ask is im going to be done with my 1st time b20vtec build soon and i travel alot from so cal to nor cal like once every other month </TD></TR></TABLE>
As long as the setup is tuned and your not holding @ 8000 rpms for the hole 500 mile trip, I wouldnt worry. I have 6600 DD miles since Aug 07 and don't think twice about taking long trips. Next month I'll be going 3.5 hrs to VIR, tracking for 2 days then driving back. No worries

lol, f@ck! good looking out. i spent the whole day researching those OBX cams
and sure enough theyve been proven to eat up rockers.
im in the process of how im going to go about with the return. thats what i get for waiting till the last minute. i was trying to have my blox b's here and installed by next friday to get to Church's and get dyno tuned, but when i was finally going to order them they were sold out.
. Damn, and i have a big race that night.

Well I determined that the weakest link with my B20vtec build is not the sleeves, its the b16 differential. After eliminating two V8's at the track, the 3rd attempt at one ended with my diff exploding. Good times

I am currently in the process of building another b20. I had one two years ago that never had any problems mechanically what so ever. I built the motor myself and it made 230hp and 175 tq. The car was my daily driver and it saw 75 miles a day and numerous beatings at the track and street races. It never overheated or had any sleeve issues. the setup was
-b20z stock bore w/hone
-84 mm RS ITR pistons when they first came out
-stock rods w/ arp bolts
-stock crank
-ported gsr head
-ported blox manifold, 70 mm tb
-s2s2 cams
-profab header w/ full 2.5 straight piping
on 22" slicks it ran 8.0 at 88mph in the 1/8th with a crappy 1.8 60 ft. no traction bars and full weight interior with power doors
.
I put about 8k miles on it before it was stolen
. Ill try to post pics later if you guys want to see the car and the motor.

Built in 2002
The build-
1992 stock B16 head/valvetrain
ITR cams
ITR intake manifold
ITR throttle body
OBD1 prelude injectors
stock headgasket
2000 stock JDM B20B shortblock
Stock pistons/rods/rod bolts
Piston valve reliefs were slightly enlarged
ARP head studs
AEM 99-00 Civic SI CAI
Comptech 4-2-1 standard street header
Hondata, tuned
Still runs fine, I would say setup has maybe 15-25k miles on it. Haven't really spent the time to figure it out. Compression test/leakdown is perfect. Just did a leakdown last month and numbers were pretty much 0 across the board.
All of it was OEM honda, never rebuilt or anything. 1992 b16 head just off a JDM longblock from japan and same thing with the block.
Motor makes decent power, between 165-190 depending on the dyno.

Went to another NASA HPDE, at the legendary "ROCK" in Rockingham NC. This old NASCAR track was recently bought and reopened for smaller venues. It's only about an hour from the house so thought I'd hang with some of my buds.
the 30 degree banks are no joke and the transitions form the infield to the banking are aggressive.
Latest count
~ 10,000 DD miles
1,000 Track miles
I plan to attend another weekend at CMP and Road Atlanta before the year is over. This should put me at around 1300 rack miles and 14000 total. Even though the engine is still running good I'll probably drop the oil pan and take a peak at the bearings sooner rather than later. The motor takes alot of abuse on-track and I'd hate to loose a hole motor for the cost of a few bearings.

Nice build! Guys throw up any dyno plots or car pic if you have them. I'll probably start sending out IMs every few months so we can keep the information current.

Wish I can see a track around Louisiana.
Daily Driven 93 hatch
b20 84mm short block
ctr i/t cam and the rest is a stock b16A2 top half
same b20 header that came with the long block
fidanza flywheel & 6 pucks clutch
2 1/4 pipes with a 2.0" muffler
don't like the noise
I rev Pass the 7.5 rpm on ~40% of the time.
Built since '05, but a month ago lend it to a friend
since I was fixing his '96 ls hatch that I did the swap back in '06.
My car came back with KNOCKING noises.
I don't want to point finger, but D@mn!!!
Pulled her out of the car a week ago, and finally open her up last night.
ALL 8 VALVES have kissed ALL 4 pistons leaving deep grooves on the ctr i/t side.
...deeper valve travel
Is there a chance that he miss shift and cause the timming to skip a notch???????
Rebuilding this weekend.
12.5 cr pistons
ARP rod and head bolts
FULL gasket/rebuilt kit
Any suggestion while the engine is "open"???
Is there a chance that he miss shift and cause the timming to skip a notch???????
Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your car, sounds like your friend owes you a rebuild.
How many miles would you say it has on it??
I had a D series that skipped a tooth once but the belt was loose. I would guess that he overreved it, valves floated and you came up short.
I couldn't tell from the info but I wouldn't run the CTR/ITR cams without CTR/ITR valve springs. Also, Your probably loosing a little top end running 2" muffler but I completely understand the noise issue with a DD.
Good luck getting back on the road and keep us posted

-b20b stock block
-gsr head with ctr cams
the rest is stock
-skunk2 i/m with stock b16 t/b
-aem intake
-stock b16 headers w/ stock exhaust
-gsr tranny with act heavyduty street clutch/act lightweight flywheel
-mobile 1 synthetic 5w30
Total mileage so far on this motor is about 1800k
this car is dd driven and pushed when needed to. i drive it average 10 miles a week around school (imma college student/some days it looks sad in the parking lot sitting by itself "untouched") and a weekend of driving back home and to school it'll be a 150 miles. So i get about 300 miles to the tank with a little rough driving.
i am very concern about not having this motor tuned. i know theres really no reason to get it professionally tuned but i dont want to take a risk of having the motor blow on me. any suggestions? im only running a stock obd1 p72 ecu.

you should get it tuned, at least with an FPR so you aren't driving lean everywhere.
