What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like
2 Attachment(s)
This is the 2006 Acura Advance Sedan concept car.
The first Keen Edge Dynamic. Below it is the car as it was finally released. It's interesting how some of the design elements remained and can be seen in the final product. |

Once an ugly duck, always an ugly duck.

Re: What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like
Look how the eyebrows on the front of the 2006 fenders eventually morphed into the 09-10 design with the brake ducts.

Many of the concept car's rear design elements also remained in the final design, although at first glance they seem radically different.
|
Re: What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like
The crease in the rear deck and the angle of the trunk lid opening were reversed for the final design.

Re: What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like

If Lexus' philosophy is the L-Finesse, what's Acura's?

I would love the car if it wasn't for that gaudy factory grill.
Although, I do like the car alot with a paint matched grill. |

Re: What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like
the concept looked like a plain block of wood that still needed to be sculpted.
I'd take a TL with the ron jon grill any day! |
Re: What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like
You're just trying to show a more outrageous version of the production model so we can accept and cope with the ugliness it currently is!
|
Re: What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like
meh, i know it takes a lot to design new cars BUT COME ONE!

never let us design anything again please... |
Re: What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like
Yeah, this was done at the CA studio.
My best friend is a designer at their Tokyo studio (which is why I was there last week) and things can certainly get frustrating for him. |
Re: What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like
The 3G and 4G TL were both designed by Americans for Americans.
There is a fairly hot JDM market of people who are trying to import the 4G SH-AWD TL. |
Re: What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like
I can fully understand that... it's a beautiful car:drink:

Because Americans are good at marketing to themselves. That's why the Big 3 are beating out the Asian manufacturers.

they both suck.

Re: What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like
Hey G... Have you considered options for new pogo sticks for your new ride?
Or you going to keep it OEM? |
Re: What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like
Why so much emphasis on this Back to the future reject of a car?

Re: What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like
I can live with the front-end but the back-end is hideous. Getting beat with an ugly stick would be an understatement.

They wonder if the naysayers are even in the target audience, but they worry enough that they've commissioned surveys to ascertain the impact of the design. The issue's further complicated because this all happened at the same time that the USA and Canada experienced a very serious economic downturn, so it's hard to tell if the economy is more of a problem than the cutting edge design. It's important to Honda and that is, after all, why we are here. |
Re: What the Power Plenum Grill Originally Looked Like
I'm hoping the aftermarket will make some grills that don't make the cars look like they should be biting through chains or chasing James Bond...

But there are a couple of replacement grills out there if you really want. |
