Something different from Omnipower...

Well, I’ve kept in touch with Steve(Omniman) ever since I had the chance to test out his coilovers right before they hit the market. Had a fun time on those things with a trackday and autoX back to back. And we got to see later in the shock dyno categories that they were better than other options that were more expensive. So basically… a great deal https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif (as many have found)

Anyways, I’ve talked with Steve about what I use my car for and how its slowly turning into a mostly track vehicle… and he mentioned a new product he’s been working on. It’s a clutch master cylinder replacement… direct replacement (as in identical fit/replacement for oem clutch MC). So I had him send me one out to test and fiddle with.

I got it on the car the other night and it’s a great change! Dropped pedal movement distance approximately in half. Pedal stiffness increased (less pedal distance = increase in pedal psi requirements) to I’d say about a stage2 pressure plate clutch. Now mind you, I have an Action 6puck sprung, which had an oem pressure feel AND the one Steve sent me is not the production one… that one he said is a bit different spec and thus has a softer feel.

What I found so fun about this little mod, is the fact that I can press the pedal just a little (like an inch for my specific engagement point) and shift… (read: faster shifts). I think it was a great compromise for me, I’m not a fan of short shifters… the stock ITR one is perfect in my mind (with a skunk2 knob for weight of course https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif ), and yet I still was looking for something a little quicker. This so far has filled the gap. It took just a few minutes to get used too (I’ll admit… I almost stalled it when I was backing outta the garage), a few shifts later and its feeling normal to me.

And if I ever go drag racing again… I can imagine this will help a lot also… I’m not the best drag racer… nor the fastest shifter on the planet. So mechanical assistance… is nice https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

Looking forward to having this (and all my little changes over the winter) ready for the track season. Expo is soooo close! I figured since I'll be seeing all of you fools in a few weeks... and those that can fit in my car can see how the pedal feels... that this was the place to put this...

Oh and a picture of it to show how purty! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

He never really mentioned a final production price... BUT he did say sometime in the next month or so.

The one he sent me was a 22mm internal.. and I think he is still deciding which size to offer for production.. 21 or 20... both will not increase the pedal stiffness as much (which honestly i kinda like... hehe)

Ima send this thread to him actually, so he can post up real info.. since I have no clue. I just had fun getting to test it.

Too bad this wasn't out 3 months ago when my stock one died.

Exactly, it can be a repair and upgrade at the same time. I'm always looking for an excuse to upgrade https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

I sent the thread link to Omniman... so he can give real info. All I can say is what it feels like to me, no info from the 'man' https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

No problem.. was in stop/go traffic the last 2 days and didn't mind it at all. I literally flex my foot to shift (ie: about 1in travel).

Does this affect the force required to push / hold the pedal down?

From your description, it sounds like some of the effects from an aftermarket clutch (less travel), but is there any difference in force required, as is the case with an aftermarket clutch?

(i'm just so used to the stock feel)

Is the Type-R Clutch MC the same as the GSR?

Yes, it would feel stiffer. his description actually makes me think of a stock MR2 turbo and it's clutch engagement.

Re: (Alexander)

From how he described it to me.. the model he sent me is the stiffest pedal pressure change. 22mm.

The ones for production he said would be 20 or 21mm (softer). I think he is still deciding if he is going to offer just one size... or 2, or all 3.

I sorta wish i had more info now, just so I could pass it on to you guys. All I really have is what I remember from phone chats and my own testing.

The 22mm does feel like I have a heavier aftermarket clutch and a wonderfully short clutch pedal motion. I don't think i'd advise people to get the 22mm if they have a hefty aftermarket clutch in, the other sizes though... should work. I haven't tried them, so we'll have to wait for Omni to pipe in.

my Action 2KS (dual diaphragm) with a stock CMC feels like i'm leg pressing 300lbs at the gym...i can only imagine what kind of pedal i'd have with one of these.

With the 22mm... heh I wouldn't suggest it. I have the Action 1MS (think its ms... 6puck sprung) and it felt almost oem to me, except for engagement location. I'd estimate that the pedal pressure is something stage 2 of like an ACT or Clutchmasters.

Just remember... 22mm is the most aggressive one...pedal feel wise. Hopefully Omni can chime in with pedal feel on the other sizes.

honestly i've gotten used to the feel of my clutch. it feels normal to me now....so maybe a little bit stiffer would be nice haha. its got the whenever i drive any other car i feel like the pedal is stuck to the floor https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

Chris N 05-10-2005 09:15 AM

It's very, very, very short imo.
I have not driven it, but I sat in it and checked out the travel w/ the car off.

Chris - who would be interested to see how it is while moving/shifting.

Re: (omniman)

very interesting product.....

Kind of OT....but is there a product currently out there that can make a heavier clutch have a lighter feel?

Is the clutch SLAVE cylinder responsible for this?

After rolling my ankle and nearly breaking it doing sports in High School.... My ligaments or some poop in my foot gets real sore esp. in the joints when I'm trying to drive a car with a super stiff clutch. I've got a minor tear in my knee as well and it hurts all the way up there..... https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

I'd like a more aggressive clutch but is it possible to have my cake and eat it too? http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

FORTUNATELY for me, this is the last thing I need, I am already building quads of steel with my Action 2MD, and it's engagement area is already very small. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif One less thing to spend money on.
