OBD2 TUNING??
hey all, this is my first time posting something up on here and im sorry its because i need help. my names mike and i just bought a 2000 acura integra type r. i know we have gone over this a number of times but im hoping something has changed since the last thread i was reading from 2005. is there any way to tune the stock p73-023 ecu that comes with this vehicle? i want to build and turbo this thing and hopefully make close to 500. my main problem is i cant find a way to tune the obd2 ecu and i cant go obd1 because i want to pass nys emissions as well. i actually would rather run a cat with 2 o2 sensors anyway but if i build it, theres no way for me to just swap ecus and pass emissions..i dont expect the obd2 ecu to even start the engine after its built to 500hp let alone run right with no check engine light. is there any way to tune this obd2 ecu or at least make the obd1 communicate with obd2? i know the latter is a long shot but its 2018..someone please surprise me.

Re: OBD2 TUNING??
Not possible.

update...AEM FIC6 piggyback on obd2 ecu should work. the piggyback doesnt give as much tuning ability but can get my type r to 400-500hp while still retaining obd2 communication w/o CEL. thanks guys!

it is possible. its sad that after 22yrs of OBD2 i still cant get a simple and geniune answer from any Honda forums on this subject. i figured it out myself. thanks for reading the post at least, i guess.

If you're willing to try to push 500whp on a 20 year old 1.8L 4-banger with a piggyback solution then good luck with that lmao. You'd be better off having a chipped OBD1 ECU with a proper tune for regular driving then just swap in the OBD2 ECU + FIC6 with conservative tune just for emissions testing. |

You asked if you could tune an ITR OBD2 ECU, you can't because the microcontroller at it's heart isn't rewritable and it doesn't have the capability to read from a separate ROM like OBD1 ECUs can.

(I can say this as I am currently running over 530whp on a 97 Turbo Honda using OBD2 Wiring and a Power FC. I'm still the only one in the Midwest that still does this. |
Re: OBD2 TUNING??
Aren't the Power FC and EMS standalone engine management systems that replace the factory ECU entirely?
Not trying to argue, I'm perfectly okay with being wrong, forums are for learning. :-) |

I agree with the 1st premise, but not with the 2nd premise. Pushing a 500whp on an OBD2 System is very possible, without the need of going down to an OBD1 ECU. AEM EMS, Apex'i Power FC, Emanage Ultimate, and the aforementioned FIC6.

Your road is tougher than you think. When doing my builds I had no emissions to worry about. You, on the other hand are going to have to find some palms that can be greased when it comes to emissions time in the process of competing your project

Re: OBD2 TUNING??
yeah i go though the pain of swapping ecu , injectors, 2nd o2 tricker to pass e test on my 2001 itr tuned on obd1 to make few extra hp lol
it somehow can run with no engine check light |
