x4.

I've used Castrol and haven't really had any issues with it. I was using synthetic blend but I just switched to the European formula, so we'll see how that goes.

Did you switch to that from another oil and did you see a reduction in oil burning in V-Tech after switching?

Yeah, I tried out Quaker State's "high rpm" synthetic blend because they had a promotion where if you bought like 4 quarts you'd get some free or something... Now I know they do that because I needed to buy like 4 extra quarts in between oil changes. Switched to the Castrol blend for the past 2 oil changes and couldn't be much happier with it. I went through less than a quart between each. I'm expecting the full synthetic Euro formula to hold up even better. We'll see once the weather is nice enough to get the car out.

I'm definitely going to try the Amsoil and will post up the results, I think I'll have to order it I haven't seen it locally.

i think i read that some autozones had it. you may just have to call around asking for the european/german formula.

When the car was in B motor form, I used Castrol GTX.

But the K motor cost so much that I spend the extra money on Motul now, in both the motor and gearbox.

Even after a three day weekend that would involve a total of 18 sprint sessions, you're only beginning to be able to see the oil on the dip stick!

were you burning more oil before you switched. I 'm trying to find out which oil holds up better once the engine heats up so it dosent break down and get by the rings in V-tech and kill all the mosquitos in South Florida. So far it sounds like Amsoil is the Stuff.

I love the stuff as well but I thought autozone stopped carrying it. A year ago I would go everyweek to multi autozones and they never had any in stock. A couple of people asked and they said they were not being carried anymore. I might have to drop by this week to see if they have any. I have 2 bottles, but not enought to do an oil change...

my local one has tos of it, not many local people buy it. They had the old green stuff, but they now carry the newer amber colored version. They restock weekly so i'm pretty sure they still carry it.

After owning several honda's. I heard several individuals swearing by this Mobil one synthetic. I used it in my honda's for years and they always burned oil. I would constantly check my dipstick and be a quart low or two quarts low. I couldnt help but to wonder, "why do all my engines burn oil." So I decided to try something cheaper and different. Went to Castrol GTX non synthetic and I havent burned a drop. All my problems are now solved, only to find out, I was buying shitty oil. Im just glad I checked my oil regularly, cause if I didnt, I would have blown many motors with that ****. I wouldnt even run that stuff in my moped!!

Mobil One Synthetic

Castrol GTX non syntetic

I have never heard of amsoil until this thread. If I get curious enough, I might give it a try.

You're right. I just stopped by autozone today and they had it in stock. I bought all 5 bottles they had. Get this, normally a little over $6 a bottle. They had an oil change special, 5 bottles plus fram tough guard filter for only $24.99! I use Hamp filters but just to get the deal it was worth it even if I do not use the filter!

Hmm this should really be a poll. That way anyone who is unsure about what brand will have a solid figure to look at to see who uses what most commonly.

For example, I've always been a Mobil1 synth. person, but now I see that's probably not the best for the R now (right now I'm on some crazy racing oil...).

From what I see, Amsoil and Castrol seem to be the favorites.

So, poll? I'd make it but I don't want to scour this thread for every oil mentioned, instead I'll let any oil connoisseurs do it.

This is the correct bottle right? Is there a difference in appearance between the US and German spec blends?

Yeah thats it.

The labels are different on the us bottles, also it wont say european formula on the front. You cant mistake one for the other just look for the "made in germany" on the back.

EU Castrol

Mobil 1 , about 1.5qrts per oil change.

With Castrol I burn a very little... too little to take note of.
