worn piston rings?
i just did a leak down test-turns out air is hissing back from the plug holes on cylinder 3 and 4
does that mean my rings are worn????? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif |
Re: worn piston rings? (aracer69)
are you burning oil at all? how many miles are on the motor?
|
Re: worn piston rings? (aracer69)
oil is going down but there is fresh oil leaking from the front of the engine where the head gasket sits-could it just be that my valves where open
oh and around 40 k on motor |

Re: worn piston rings? (aracer69)
I believe that if you had worn rings, you'd hear a hissing in the head...like in the oil cap. I could be wrong, though. Have you lost power at all? Burning oil? Sometimes the dipstick will even blow out if you have worn piston rings...at least on boosted apps (i think)
If you hear it near your intake manifold, you have leaking intake valves...in the exhaust, leaking exhaust valves. If you can't really tell where its coming from, it's headgasket, most likely. |
Re: worn piston rings? (aracer69)
i havent really lost power at all-it's just my car smokes white sometimes-coolant gets low and oil too-but no white from oil and my coolant still looks green-oil leaks out the front of the engine though-looks like head gasket area
i only hear hissing from the spark plug hole not from the oil cap-no bubbles too from the radiator-i really dont know if it is my rings because it only smokes sometimes when i change gear- |
Re: worn piston rings? (aracer69)
do a compression test then you will know right away

Re: worn piston rings? (spoolinvtec)
I just did a leak down test which is better than the compression test-i am norrowing my options to whether it is a faulty headgasket or worn rings
|
Re: worn piston rings? (aracer69)
it's not really better...just a different kind of test.
