why does the gearing for tegs suck
why does the gearing suck so much ***? just wondering why, i mean im at the top of 4th at the end of the 1/4mi, and when i cruise on the HWY im @ over 4K RPM

i happen to think 2nd gear is wonderful :dunno: the only gear i might have a problem with is 5th. IMO, there should be an additional 6th gear for economy, but it's not a big deal. If you ever get to drive a celica or GTI, you'll appreciate what you have a bit more..

Yeah, our 2nd is pretty bad. However, I just got my rev limit pushed up to 8400 and now when i shift @ 8400, i land right on my powerband... no more waiting for vtec to hit when shifting into second...

A 6th gear for cruising/economy would be perfect. But just think of all the "regular" drivers out there who are never really driving that fast. Doubtful Honda will have something like that in their economy cars.

Shift faster. You shouldn't have your secondaries close when you shift 1-2.

it's impossible to land above ur secondaries. my shifts land like right below, it looks like i'm in secondaries, but the passenger can tell me it's not at 5800.
wow 2nd is my money shot...im surprised yall all dont like 2nd...i usually take a 2nd to get going in 1st then at about 6000 ill switch to 2nd and boom....i take off....i dont know why its like that for me maybe its just my personal driving but 2nd is my favorite gear

So you're saying you can do a 1-2 shift w/ the stock redline @ 8200 and still land above 5750 RPM on a stock GS-R tranny? It only take me about 1/2 a sec to shift and I still fall short, around 5400 RPM.

-High cam is at 4400 rpm, you're confusing that with the 2ndary intake which after some debate, I've realized it's impossible to land above during the 1-2 shift due to gearing.

edit: i don't think the gearing sucks *** either. I mean hell, I get 29-30MPG on the highway and I drive 80-100MPH.

-half a second is way too slow.

It's pretty tough to shift into second and keep the secondaries open. They will usually close if you fall short of 5600 RPM. It's really hard if you have some newer sticky tires. I.E. Falken Azenis/NT555R. Yikes.
Not unless you raise your redline a few more hundreds. Mine is @ 8400 now and I land right around 5700ish and that's right when secondary opens...
this is bar none the most moronic post I have ever read.
the gearing in our trannys is golden.
if shifted right you can stay in VTEC (you can even keep the secondaries open) the whole time down the 1/4.
if the gears were any closer you would spend the whole time shifting.
