Maybe somebuddy saw it in a jdm magazine and thought that it was jdm. Then, showed up to a meet and said "this is jdm style tow-hook suckas" then the banwaggoning began.

I had a tow hook set a loooong time ago, back when crazy body kits were cool.

So no, a tow hook isnt JDM, it predates JDM. They just evolved a little bit.

They're good if you track your car, not so useful if you dont.

I take that back, living in so cal there is a good chance of getting popped and having your car towed. At least when they tow it they can hook up the hitch to your Benen hook instead of underneath your car and ******* up your carbon fiber lip.

Im just rationalizing, of course.

Its also a good way for anyone who wants to to hook up to your tow hook and tow your car away from you

and that's where they belong. People add this feature ("mod") to make their car appear to be a track car (which it may be). It's just easier to tow the car with this than reaching underneath the car to the tow hooks attached to the frame rails.

Also used by serious drag racers who can't run the engine for long periods of time because they don't have water jackets. They tow thier cars back to the pits/staging lanes with a quad or golf cart.

i'll be getting a set soon, i've done a autocross before and plan to do alot of track days this year. one time i broke a ball joint on the highway, the tow truck driver used a cable winch to pull my car onto the flat bed, the angle of the cable attached to the front bottom tow hook almost ripped off my front bumper (car is slammed) and made my corner light fall out. it would have torn off my lip for sure (i left a screwdriver in the car so i pulled it off) so in cases like that i guess it could be useful.

Plus the air that hits it keeps your drink nice and cold. mmm boba.
