Default weird noise problem..

Well my car is making the most hideous ******* noise I have ever heard. When I dry turn the wheel slowly it makes this horrible ******* screeching noise, but when I turn fast it doesnt. When I brake at the lights or something it makes the noise and when I relese from the brake it makes the noise. I jacked the car up because I thought it might be the spring out of place or something, because its a high pitched screetching noise, but it wasnt, so I cheked all bushings and stuff and there fine, and when the car doesnt have weight on that side then it doesnt make the noise, as soon as I put the car on the ground it makes the noise again. I feel bad driving it around, like it honeslty sounds like my whole car is going to fall apart and ill be riding like fred flinstone..

Anybody know what this could be?

Its on the passenger side front wheel, but there is no evidence of anything, other then the sound.. somebody mentioned ball joint but a couple people said its way to loud and weird to be a that.. as far as bushings they are all good and have lots of meat left..

help me h-t.. my teg sounds like ****!

It could be your belt slipping over the pulley. When was the last time you checked the belts?

food for thought

I just had my motor install not to long ago, about 5 months.. but I went out to check it for sure. The power steering and everything seems to look fine, the noise is coming from the rightside of the car, almost as if its the drive making the noise, because its under the motor on the passenger side..

does it only happen when the wheel is turning (as in rotating, as if you were driving)?

yeah, it only makes the noise when I turn the wheel dry or when the car is on, and it also on makes it when there is weight on the ground, not when the car is jacked..

jack it up, grab the wheel on both sides, and try to wiggle it back and forth. if it wiggles (not changing the steering) your wheel bearing is probably toast. if it doesn't wiggle, try this: jack up your whole front end from the central jacking point, put it on jackstands (with rear tires blocked and ebrake on), start the car, put it in gear, and slowly let out the clutch. just so your get the wheels spinning. get out of the car and listen for any noises. have a friend lightly hit the gas while you're outside the car trying to locate the noise. if there's still no noise, all i can give you is conjecture (which is all i can really give anyhow). bad wheel bearings shouldn't make noise when the car is stopped.

you might want to check your upper ball joint (the one that connects the A-arm to your wheel hub), and maybe the lower. the fact that it happens when you turn the wheel dry, and apparently only when load on these joints both increases and decreases (braking and turning), makes me want to look at the two ball joints that act as pivot points for the wheel assembly, either the upper or the lower.

FWIW, i was having brake issues for a while, nothing that affected actual brake performance, but more an annoying noise. when i went around turns, my passenger-side brake would make a light screeching noise. i had new pads at the time, and i didn't know what it was. in fact, i still don't know. but i changed my pads and rotors, and haven't had problems since. this noise wasn't anywhere near as obnoxious as the one you describe, but to be prudent, while you have the wheel off you should check out the brakes on that side (probably before you decide to inspect the ball joints).

it did not, however, make any noise when i just turned the wheel while parked, so the ball joints are still a prime target in my mind.

thanks for humoring my rambling, and i hope it helps.

good luck
