weird idle problem HELP!!!!!!!
Sup guys, i currently have alittle idle problem hopefully someone can help me..
I have a 1999 Integra Type-R bottem end with a 1997 B18C gsr head, ran by a obdI Chipped jdm p72 ecu..
Today my friend and I just installed my skunk2 manifold with the hondata gasket and fixed a few wires.. We also changed out throttle bodies and i'm kindof thinking of the situation as i write this post and i believe i might know the problem solver but lemme explain..
When i start my car up it tends to idle really high, 1500 or so then it'll jump to 2000 and hold.. then it'll drop to 1500 but it'll bump like its hitting a rev limiter.. but it doesn't drop below 1500 or go above.. it just bounces..
I remember having this problem before with my last upgrade and i had to screw the IAC the thing at the bottom of the throttle body the white nipple in all the way and it fixed it.. but here's the kicker.. When i barely touch my gas it tends to sound like its misfiring alot.. but it doesn't do it all the time.. it tends to go away after i push the pedel down alittle bit harder.. For some info on no mods just a stock gsr top and stock type-r bottom with a jdm type-r tranny i ran a good 14.22 at 103 in the 1/4.. i got it tuned with the gsr manifold and i haven't ran it since today i changed the manifold and gasket and really just cleaned up under my hood.. if anyone can help me plz do it tonight i'm tryin to get ready for IFO(import face off) Tomorrow.. i hope to see some 13's out this car basically all stock just a good tuning.. help with this idle problem tho cause i think its connected to the misfiring dont ask me how but last time i had this problem i fixed th eidling it went away.

first i would like to say those are some nice times and a nice setup you got there.
but to keep on topic, I would check your iacv, could have some carbon build up, that usually causes that jumpy idle. I don't know about the misfiring though. Did you get any cel codes? check your timing.
also, what are you tuned with?

its ur throttle body, the valve disc is not set, its prolly fallen off its screw. switch out the throttle bodies. (thats the best exp i can give, i dont know the exact part, but ill go check and take pics if i can) anyways it adjusts the amount of air flow into ur manifold at idle. its suppose to be a problem in integras/preludes, after so many miles, they just loosen up and fall off sometimes.
i think thats what it is, hope it helps
that problem bugged me for 6 months, till i finally figured it out, 5 shops didnt have a clue, including honda/acura dealership.

oh well...when installed mine i got the same problem...it turned out to be i got a wrong throttle gastket...meanwhile i was tyring to figure out the problem i made myself a check list of erratic idling which i think you should follow
Erratic Idling Check Lists I use.
( ) Vacuum lines leak?
( ) Check PCV, if bad or crack, then replace it,,,,
( ) Is Throttle blade full close? Yes, then good, No? then adjust TB’scable
( ) Throttle cable is too tight? Then lose it, make sure tb’s blade if fully close to test for erratic idle
( ) Throttle bolts are tight? Torque spec are 23lbs-25 each, I torqued at 23lbs for all 4 botls
( ) Stock idle screw should be fine, don’t adjust it just if the idle act erractically, weird idle caused by other factors, idle screw does not need to adj
( ) Bleed coolant system, eliminates air buddle (very minor, but make sure there are enuff coolant)
( ) FITV, tighten screw inside of FITV (require to open up the FITV, at the same time clean it, don’t do it unless you have too, FITV is controlled by its merchanism, not easily fail to do what it should do, but if you want to open it up anyway go ahead, recommend to do this if have no choice)
( ) Feel the FITV hole (is the lower hole inside the TB), it shouldn’t sux too much air..just a little after warme up
( ) Block both FITV hole and SIAC (SIAC hole on the top of FITV inside throttle body and SIAC hole should sucks hard so get something to help ur finger) hole inside the TB, engine should suffer to die-out, if it doesn’t suffered to death…and the idle still up and down or it stops surging up and down then for sure there is a vacuum leak either at lines, gaskets
( ) Check SIAC for damage, positive for blk/yel, and negative for blu/yel, and clean it
( ) When covered both FITV and SIAC, car idles still high, there is a vacuum leak
( ) Check IM bolts, spray Starting fluid around, look for leaking symton (im not sure on this, it hard to tell)
( ) Check SIAC and FITV, are they both tightly bolted on?
( ) Check TPS for voltage with fully close throttle blade, voltage should be 4.8, -,+.6 (
( ) Check MAP for voltage, should be 5v with marginal error of .5 or less, 4.5 is fine
( ) Check IAT for voltage, should be 5v with marginal error of .5 or less, 4.5 is fine
( )
( ) Replace ECU, or if have an extra ECU to test…
( )
Additional Problems Found by me
( ) Transmission oil is low
( ) Wrong gasket, sound stupid but there is a chance on that
( ) PCV cracked
( ) Stock idle screw should be fine as it is, don’t adjust it just bcuz if the idle acts erractically, idle screw should only be adjusted when the idle is higher than normal and only when the idle is constantly stable

hope this help you out a little bit

K.. I'm still having problems and this is what i've come to think..
First off would a Tuning setup for a GS-R manifold really effect it..
When we replaced the manifold.. all we did was just that.. we didn't touch the ecu or anything like that.. All the lines were tighten and most were replaced with new hoses and the wires that were cut were refixed and all connected to the right place.. This car is running Ridicoiusly Rich i mean like everytime i stand on it it fucken blows a cloud of black smoke threw every gear.. and it idles like it has a cam in it which is where its like choking... its like gagging for gas it seems like nothing like misfiring but its a fuel problem.. I really dunno what to do at this point i dont get paid till next week and i really i guess i just should try to figure it out myself in the mean time, i plan on replacing the IAC but when i had the gs-r manifold it didn't do this crap.. it did nothing of this sort and now it acts weird dont get me wrong i feel the difference but its idleing funny, its starving for fuel and its like just not the way it should be..what else could i do..

BTW is this bad for my car the way its idling it kindof seems like its getting too much fuel could that damage my internals i mean what am i working with here.. this motor is a beast.. i dont want it to lose what it has..
