hey guys....

got a 98 GSR w/ 91K on it...just had timing belt and water pump changed....got an ITR clutch in at around 55K miles....no other mods really...

I noticed recently that my car kind of lags at the beginning of 1st gear. it feels like i bog the engine or something (like it wants to stall, and then it goes but I only notice this in first gear from a stop)....don't kno what it is...well, i'm not CERTAIN what it is....this is what i think it MIGHT be...

(1) some days i start the car and it sounds like it's weak when the starter turns....battery getting old? shud i change the battery? starter? alternator?

(2) got cheap copper plugs put in the car prolly 10K miles back...i usually change them every 15K miles...cud it be the plugs are worn? i just never noticed the car bog with worn plugs....

you guys have any experience with this? any advice will help...thanks!

 

when did you replace your fuel filter ? that is most likey the bogging problem and for the hard start, start by checking the ground cable that conects to the frame and the motor, that is the cheapest place to start

 

Same thing was happening to me as well... it was fuel related. I'd start by checkin the filter and then maybe putting some fuel system cleaner in when you fill up. Does the problem occur more as your tank gets lower?

 

I haven't ever replaced a fuel filter on this car. where exactly is the filter? i haven't noticed if it happens when the tank is low or full, but i'll check while i'm driving....

 

First of all, how do you have 91k miles on a 1998 car?
Second, my battery finally died on my 95 GSR with 85k miles. I just picked up whatever they had at Walmart and put it in. My car used to start kinda slow, or rarely I'd have to turn the key twice. With this new battery...holy crap! It starts up SUPER quick!! So I am going to say it sounds like your battery is getting weak. It only cost me 40 bucks, so it wouldn't hurt, and mine comes with a 2 year warranty.

BTW, the fuel filter (I believe, not 100% sure) is the black cylinder with hoses, immediately to the right of your battery.

 

It is in the location he said. About the size of an oil filter. Buy one from the dealer, you will find it.

I have 60k on my 99, I am sure I will have 90 next year. Too much driving in Cali to live.

 

yeah the fuel filter is to the right of the battery.. it only costs $20 for a Purolator fuel filter replacement at pep boys and w/ 90K and its factory you might as well change it.. as for the battery... go to autozone, Kragen or pep boys and ask them to load test your battery and charging system.. most places do it for free.. and if u need a battery you can buy it there.. 1 stop shopping..
