Default Vtec and running lean question

First off I am new to the forum and to the Honda/Acura world. After owning my 98 gsr for about 6 months now I am hooked. I have a couple of question. First when I did a compression test a couple of days ago I noticed my spark plugs were white , not a tan color. Which to me means the car is running lean. Do they make tuner for these cars to adjust the tune of the car?And my second question is how can I tell if my vetc selonod is kicking in completely and working as it should. Does it either work or it doesn't , or can they get tired or time and need to he replaced?? My car has the original everything(except the clutch which was replaced at 207k) and has 230k mls. The compression test came out really good I think for the miles and the plugs didn't have a spec of oil on them. Test was 220,215,210,215.The reason for the vtec question is because I don't really feel that sudden pull when my rpms come up. It's more of a constant pull from 3000 all the way to redline. And everyone talks about the vtec pop!!

Tuning a 98 typically requires swapping the ECU to OBD1. (96-01 were OBD2.)

The VTEC either works or it doesn't. The power about 6k would greatly suffer if it did not work. It engages at 4400 RPM. It is difficult to hear on a stock GSR. A GSR has a smooth torque curve, which is how it should be. If you feel VTEC in a stock B18C1, it is not tuned properly.

Cool. That's exactly what I wanted to know. I purchased a dc header and an exhaust for it. I should have it by the end of the week. Will that Mack the vtec pop more or are you referring to more along of the lines of head work(cams, porting, spring, etc). And I forgot to mention the car does have a cold air intake.thanks

Ps. What in mean by pop more is pull harder after 6k . The only vtec I have ever been in is mine. My buddies are in to the German seen. I watch videos on YouTube and it looks like alot of guy once they hit 5 to 6k there rpms really start tomjump
Fast.

Head work and cams would be required for that. I have the ITR cams in my GSR. It still doesn't "pop". If it does, you are running a radical cam or it is not tuned properly.

Vtec shouldn't pop. It only "pops" because the Vtec crossover is not smooth. A properly engaging vtec should be smooth.

Cliffs: Needs a tune!
