My car is acting funny. Had the 22 code on my obd1 engine, so i swapped my vtec solenoid. It went away, but as I drive and try to hit vtec the light comes on around when it is supposed to engage. Anyone have any experience with crap like this? I really wanan get rid of this stupid engine light. When I shut off the car and turn it back on the light is gone.

 

Did you change just the solenoid portion or did you change the entire VTEC spool valve? Did you check the plug for the VTEC oil pressure switch?

Have you checked your engine oil level and verified that it is full to the upper dot on the dip stick?

Low engine oil will not allow proper vtec function. But so will a dented oil pan will restrict oil flow and also cause this issue, because it is restricting oil flow to the pickup. Dose your oil light come on when vtec is supost to engauge, is their any rough idling or missing of the engine. When you replaced the solenoid did you replace or clean the filter screen?
