You always need a vtec solenoid to engage vtec, the vtec controller is used to tell the vtec solenoid when to engage vtec. In order for a vtec controller to work, you need a vtec solenoid.

You might want to look at this VAFC review, it will tell you a little more about what the function is and how to hook it up.

A vtec solenoid must be used on a vtec head. Your question is pretty vague even for a newb. A vtec controller allows the user to adjust the vtec engagement. What motor are you even talking about.. Please tell me you aren't trying to figure out if you need a solenoid or a VAFC to make your LS a Vtec motor... lol Has this thread been deleted yet? I dunno.. maybe search next time you have a completely ignorant question.
