upper ball joint question.
well yesterday i was replacing my axle, and didn't know i didnt have to take off the upper ball joint. now i cant really tighten it. when i try to tighten the castle nut, the whole thing spins, whole thing as in the upper ball joint's stud and the castle nut.
has anything had this problem? how is this solved?
and yes i searched. Your search for upper ball joint returned 6 results.

Should of lubed the nut before you put it back on than it wouldnt get stuck and you could turn it on by hand and then just tighten it up .. Try to use a fork

hmm still confused. the problem is that it wont tighten up cuz the castle nut and the stud is turning at the same time.

Saying if you would of lubed the nut up than it would get stuck and the balljoint wouldnt spin with the nut .. trying useing a fork and and see if it tightens it up and see if you can get the nut tighter

I have seen ball joints with a small slot machined into the end of the threaded portion (looks like from a cutoff wheel and a dremel?). This enables you to stop it from rotating with a screwdriver while tightening the nut. Once the nut is kinda tight, you won't need the screwdriver anymore because the taper on the ball joint will likely hold it steady.
Tap the castle nut to clean the threads, install the balljoint into the knuckle, lightly thread the castle nut onto the balljoint, jack up the LCA (with strut assy installed) to put tension into the suspension, tighten castle nut with wrench, and install the cotter pin.
