Default Tires rubbing?

i just purchased some used racing hart c2 3 piece rims(i know their heavy). Anyways i have a 2 inch drop on my car and today when i was driven when i hit bumps on the road my back tires would make a clunking sound(i guess its rubbing). Is there anyways to fix this. Also, when i got out of my car i noticed taht one of the lips on the back wheel is slightly bent; did this most likely happen do to the rubbing(when the tires did rub the noise was pretty bad). I examined the wheels pretty good before buying them and didnt notice that before. Thanks for the help. oh ya im running 205/40 size tires.

you should get the inner lip of the rear archs rolled to prevent further rubbing. the rims must be a 38mm offset which means that they are sitting out flush with the bodywork (almost) and so when you have a load on in the back they will rub on the inner arch lip. OR you could bring them to a good machine shop and have them shave 4/5mm from the mounting face of the wheel, this would leave them sitting in further into the arch and prevent rubbing.

if you've only put the rims on then it wont have done much damage, chances are it could do more damage to the inner arch lip. It may have worn the rubber slightly on the outer edge of the tyre but it would take constant rubbing over a long period of time to do any serious damage...like wear it down to the canvas underneath. What size rims are they? It might be better for you to bring the car to a good bodyshop and get them to roll the inner archs, this what i had to do when i fitted 17's with a 38mm offset

Listen to me!!!!!!!!
The biggest mistake I ever made on my car was to roll the fenders. It cracked the paint and started to rust. Guess what? I need a new paint job now.

If I just would have removed the rubber lining in the fender well I would have been fine. Thats what I would do. And just think I had 225/35/18s with eibach prokit and koni yellows and just removing rubber would have fixed it.

One last thing. Rims dont get bent by hitting fenders only bad bumps in the road. Search for a rim repair shop near you. Its no big deal. They even repolish the rims like new!

You can either sell the C2s (i know they are beautiful). Get new adj springs or get new koni yellow adjustable shocks. There are not too many more options. I would get the koni yellows....they rule!

there 17x7 with 38 offsett, it is the lip that is bent. I did notice some tire shreads(real tiny) on the rims when lookin at them. hopefully i just bent the lip and didnt buy the wheels like that.Looks like im gonna have to spend a bill to fix the rim.

I've had mine rolled for almost 18 months now, and even though i was told to watch out for cracking paint along the outer edge its never happened, and hopefully wont either. I asked a guy about getting the rims machined on a lathe, and he said he could do it no problem, but then i heard horror stories of rims not mounting properly and wobbling and **** and decided to get the archs done instead

did you get them rolled up completely so as they were touching the inside arch wall, mine were only rolled up about 45degrees, just enough to stop rubbing.

nope they are also about 45 degrees. the crack is not the entire length just about 4 inches long on drivers side and 2 inches long on passenger side. It started to rust so I cleaned it up and put black nail polish to cover it up. sucks so bad.

it will look kind of goofy but if it saves your archs till you get them done then thats probably more important. I would just go with the 15's all round till you get the archs sorted.

instead of rolling the lip into the fender I recommend that you grind the lip off completely with a dremel, I did this on my car with no problems. Also, if you look up inside the front fenders theres a seam where the frame meets and it sticks down about an inch. Your gonna want to also pound that back against the frame, I don't recommend that you grind this off because its where to points of the frame meet. Banging this lip down is a pain because its hard to swing a hammer inside the fender but this lip will eat into your tires if your really low.
