Tires
I don't really know much about the tire sizes, but I have 205/45/16 on my Velox rims. I was wondering what size tire would be wider? I was told that wider tires give you better handling. So what size/ brand should I get? I have Kuhmos right now. They are ok, but I want something better. But not Azenis, I need something that will last quite a while.
the first number in the tire code is the width, and 215 is the next size up the next number is the tire height...i'm not trying to talk down to you at all...i'm trying to help...so 215 would be your next size wider man...good luck
I don't know much about tires as far as what size would be best. But I can say that Kuhmo's suck IMO. I would say go with Yokohama. Great tires for the $$. I would look into the YK420's. I'm not sure what sizes they come in but I had those on both my last Honda's and I loved them.

What about Toyo? Are they worth the money? I don't think the Kuhmos are that bad. They have really good traction in the rain. I just can't take corners like I would like to. What about 225? OR 215/55? I mean, what does the height have to do with it? Smoother ride? And how long would the Azenis last? Are they really that good? What about Yokohama AVS ES 100s?

I would say that Toyo tires are a waste of rubber. I had a set and hated them, they were loud and the traction sucked...Kuhmos are a good tire, had those also. I am currently running Yokahama Parada Spec2 tires, and love them...They are quiet, handle great and look good on the car.
A quick lesson on tires. The first number of the tire is the width, in mm (I think). The second number is the height of the tire, this is an aspect ratio of the width. The last number is the size rim the tire will fit (but you know that already). Example 205/45/16, the width is 205, the height is 45% of the width, for 16" tires. You need to be careful when you get a set of tires. If you go wider then you should drop the height of the tire one step (from 45-40). The reason that you want to do that is because, if you go wider and keep the same height ratio, the tire will be taller, thus causing your speedo to be off (you will be going faster than your speedo says). I would suggest going to tirerack.com and comparing tires there, then make your choise...

well my car is dropped 1.75 and i have a 205/55/16 tire and i have to take all turns at like 20 mph or ill get some mean rubbing and i can only have one passenger in my car at a time or the car wont go anywhere
yea that tire size should be fine, i meant it wouldnt go anywhere because the metal that holds the fnder liner in just sticks into the wheel and it wont roll anywhere
if you live on the west side get the azenis...they more of a summer/spring tire and can handler better on dry surfaces, the 712s are supposed to be pretty good but are louder than the es100s, seems more ppl on this board perfer the es100s, that what im getting next ;p
I live in texas, and it rains every now and then. But how bad are they in the rain? And with the 712s I can't corner worth ****. I turn the wheel and the car just keeps going straight. But they do handle really well in the rain.
The e100s will allow you to corner better, they handle pretty well in the rain, my friend with a '00 SI has them. They handle almost as well as my Paradas on dry and wet pavement.
I had the same problem with rubbing when I turned hard, the way that I fixed it was installing a set of Energy Suspension Pollyurethane bushings (master kit). It will cost you about $150, but will get rid of your rubbing.

Something is wrong with your car then, or something is wrong somewhere else.
The 712 is up there amongst the most popular SCCA tires for the last 3 years or so. If they sucked, people wouldn't use them.
I use them for autox and have found they grip very well. Certainly not as much as an Azenis but damn close. I run within a second of ITR's that are using Azenis so they aren't that bad.
Cheers,
Roy

I find it quite amusing when people say "Kumhos suck" or "Yokohamas are much better". The simple fact is, every tire company makes a wide variety of tires, everything from sticky track tires, to high-performance tires for the street, to long-lived tires for so-so-performance family cars, etc. There are people who want a long-lived tire who would say that a short-lived sticky high-performance tire sucks, and people who want a sticky high-performance tire would would say that a long-lived not-so-sticky family car type tire sucks.
There is no one tire that is "best" at everything. Figure out what you care most about - choosing among dry traction, precision cornering, wet traction, long life, inexpensive cost, etc - and then get the tire that best meets your personal priorities.
Incidentally, I find the descriptions, tests, and survey results on the Tire Rack website very useful in evaluating different tires. For example, they have a direct test between the Yokohama ES100 and the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712, and the Yoko was superior in almost every respect.
