Default timing retarding - b18c1

my friend said he was trying to retard his timing 8 degrees and it wasnt working so he thought what the hell. he would retard it and then when he reved the engine above 3500 he said that he actually saw the timing trying to get back to its stock position. he realized then that the computer would not let him. it would set itself back to stock automatically even though all he was doing was rotating the disributor. is it true that...you cannot advance or retard the timing on a 94-95 gsr? well i mean without a chip? now he said he needs my other friend to burn him a chip that will have the timing retarded. i though that you could change the timing without a chip

Your ignition advance has to be checked at consistent rpm and load. If you change either, the engine is just going to use whatever ignition advance value it's given by the ECU (minus whatever you took out at the distributor).

Ignition advance moderately increases with rpm and decreases with increased load, and vice versa.
