Default Timing idle issue

Hey there, I recently changed out my head gasket, and all the other seals and gaskets including timing belt and water pump, on my b18b. My mechanical timing is dead on.my valves are lashed I .004 E.007. It seems like I have to have the ignition timing all the way retarded to idle at 1.5 rpm. Which keeps it running somewhat good I guess lol. I can’t get the 16 degree mark to line up for some reason. It will jump between to advanced and to retarded. Especially if it’s a cold start. It runs boggy and if I tap on the gas it goes from 1.5 rpm to 800 back to 1.5. I really need this car to get to work on my own. So any advice I would really appreciate! Thank you.

Did you jump the service connector before doing the ignition timing?

Did you change the distributor?

did you set the distributor to TDC prior to adjusting the valve lash.

Most important thing: Did you ROTATE the engine counterclockwise when you were adjusting the valve lash?? I knew someone that did it CW and the engine sounded like ***
