timing degrees?

Default timing degrees?

exactly how do you tell if you how many degrees retarded or advanced your car is. my check engine light comes on about 10mins after driving but reset if i turn my car off then back on n come back about 5-10mins. oh and turning the distrubitor left or right, which way does what?

are u saying u think the check engine light comes on because your timing is off? if so, the check engine light wont come on if your timing is off. and you need a timing gun to see what the degrees your timing is at.

no i'm asking how do you know which way advancing and which is retarding? also how do you know how many degress you are off? n i do have a timing gun.

standing on the passenger side. Advancing is turning it Counter clock wise and retarding is clockwise. Make suer you do it with a gun and have the service connector jumped.

oh yeah..and stock timing is 16 degrees. it should be the redline on the crank pulley..

hey thanks, how do you know when you are at 16 degrees? the red line on the pulley has to be directly under the marker correct?

if youre talking about TDC that is the white line...the red one is used for timing.
