Thermostat problem!?
so i think i have a problem with my thermostat, but im not 100% sure yet. Basically it takes my car a really long time to warm up. Ive noticed that if i go outside to start my car up in the morning, and leave it out there for lets say 10 minutes, its barley warmed up. And i could drive the thing 20 minutes and the temp gauge will still stay on cold pretty much. Now if i drive the car and then stop and let it sit at an idle for about 10 minutes the temp gauge will go up to normal, just under the half way mark. Then once i start driving agian it goes right back down, but i dont understand why. And ive noticed that its not running that well latley ethier. Granted it is 30 degrese out but still. Any of you guys have any idea why it does this?
get a honda oem thermostat, none of that autozone pepboys stuff, believe me get HONDA OEM for the thermostat. My DA took a while to warm up and would never get warm if i drove on the freeway so i changed it with a honda thermostat and it warms up perfectly.

i don't believe you....where's your PROOF? i've always used autozone t-stats on any car and NEVER had a problem.....if you're that paranoid about it buy a failsafe one, which is gauranteed to stay in the open position in the event it takes a ****

i just get sick of hearing this...kind of biased...while honda oem is great stuff, that doesn't mean that there's NOTHING better out there
so please, prove to me why honda oe parts are always better than aftermarket...in fact, JUST prove to me why the oem t-stat is better...all i'm asking is for you to support your statement with fact

To the OP... my car has the same problem except that the car never gets close to half way and is always under C when I drive it on the Interstate(even after a few hours of driving). The most it rises is about quarter way from the C to the Half mark and that's at a stand still on a hot day. Can I get an update if you change your thermostat and it fixes the problem? Thanks
yea thats pretty much how mine isbut maybe not as bad, but yea im going to head over to Acura on monday and pick one up and ill let you know.
aftermarket parts are produced by companies other than the original manufacturer but are made to fit and perform as well as the original. aftermarket companies buy the rights to reproduce these parts and supply them to the same wholesale distributors as the OEM parts. these parts are generally produced with the same machinery and materials but because they were not designed in the same manner the part may have minor differences in appearance and feel. some aftermarket companies, upon getting the right to produce a part, may indeed find a way to improve a part by redesigning it. this results in a better part and quite possibly a less expensive one. there are a variety of high quality aftermarket parts that can be purchased and live up to all the expectations of the original at a much lower price.
in both cases, OEM and aftermarket parts, the part should serve its purpose and perform the function it was designed for. in most cases buying a part from the carmaker or dealer does not mean you get a better quality part. the same part can be purchased at a fraction of the cost.

You can reuse the coolant if it is new and clean. I personally would just replace it.

i'm sorry but from my experiences honda oem is better than aftermarket parts from pepboys or autozone or whatever auto place stores there are. for example my sister put a autozone thermostat in her car and it was crap, it still overheated, told her to get a honda oem one and haven't had problems since
i also put a honda oem thermostat in my integra and it works BEST

i'm sorry but your defense is moot....i was hoping for a better argument on your behalf than a feable statement about your sister's car....but in the end, you'll spend more $ for something that doesn't really perform any better than what i bought aftermarket....so to each their own....and if you ever do come up with SOLID proof, please feel free to let me know

you can easily say that and lie to us oh yea she bought this and this happened. no man thats bullshit. mechanically speaking, there isnt rocket science involved in creating a thermostat. every once in awhile there is a chance there will be a bad part. YES EVEN HONDA MAKES A BAD PART HERE AND THERE! so dont be biased, be mature.

i am being mature, why would i spend more on something thats aftermarket rather than something that's been proven reliable for at least 10 years + in my car already? i think i'll spend the 13 bucks at honda rather than 10-20 bucks at autozone or pepboys for a rather inferior part, and for certain parts i would rather use honda oem parts, especially that deals with my engine. But you guys can go ahead and buy those autozone/pepboys parts, they work fine

IMO having worked at a honda dealer 4 about 3 yrs i dont know how many parts i got i had 2 send back because they didnt work, were broken or didnt fit like they were supposed 2. now i would personally prefer buying the honda t-stat. just for my piece of mind but i also just put an auto zone radiator in my wifes accord n it works fine. n niether is ALWAYS cheaper. so go with what makes u feel safe.
