regardless of model, it'll be 211 bucks for a new gear set from acuraautomotiveparts.org

You can buy the synchro set, which if I remember right 3rd and 4th share the same synchro. But you can buy the synchro separate....

Edit: I had the same problem a little while ago and I just bought all the gear set with the synchros and everything. And if i was you i would get the bearings and seals to while you have the tranny open, just my .02 cents...

i don't think so, but if it's not bad, or you don't have alot of money, you can just replace the synchro...but if it's bad, then you might have to replace the gear set...

How much did you spent on all the parts you replaced?

I have the same problem after 3 years of abuse... my 3rd gear grinds when being shifted into at high RPM or shifted quick. I want to get my tranny rebuilt before I go turbo.

I inquired Acura about this. They only sell the synchros as an entire forward set. But the synchro set itself wasnt that expensive. I recall it was around $200+/- for the set. Im not sure what else youd need to replace to support the synchros tho.

Its a big job tho. Alot of labor.

why did you bump? the answer is there. if you are going to replace the synchro replace the gears that come with it...all problems solved wether it was the synchro or the gears..it all got replaced. are you looking for th magical fre diy fix...i 'm sure we all like to see that...we all have the same problem.

Ive got the same problem with my LS on 3rd and 4th. It is the synchro and when you go to the dealer to get it you will find out that you cant just buy the synchro ring but you have to buy it along with the hub bearing and another bearing. $280 per gear.

so when i have my tranny rebuilt i just buy an LS 1 and 5, 99-00 Si 2,3,4 cuz im sure a civic si part would be cheaper than a TypeR part. now can i just drop in a TypeR lsd and still keep my LS final drive? also is the 5th gear the final drive or is the final drive a seperate piece

basically i want to custom build the ultimate tranny and i think having a taller 1st with a really tight 2,3,4 is a good combo and since i do a lot of hiwy driving i definitely want the LS 5th

Good topic.

What about JDM b16 (s1) trannies that have so many probs. with the 3rd gear synchro - would that be GSR, etc. replacement too or diff application, or impossible??
