Is this a stupid idea?
like i have said i have a 92 teg gs sedan. it has much body damage, rust hail damage, etc. I would really like to keep the car as i learned how to drive in it and have had a lot of 1st's in it ;-). But to repair all the body damage would be a shiz lode of work...(and money)...so here is my idea.
cut the roof off from the sunroof back, and cut off everything from the top of the door up...then install a roll cage, no roof or anything, just a plain roll cage form the back seats to the front window.
of course it would cause a decent amount of money but i am thinking of being a long time project.
btw who thinks it would look cool and does anyone know if this has been done before?
thanks

You can just remove the rain gutter things on the roof and scrape away the sealant then drill out the spot welds and weld a new roof in, it's that simple. I doubt it'd cost you much if anything at all to find a new roof skin from a wrecked parts car, and if you can do the work yourself (besides maybe paint but it'll need that anyways) then it can be pretty cheap.
lol do it! make it a convertable rag top. then lift it and throw on some 35" mud terrains. take that thing swampin!
or not. buy a cleaner DA

if you cut off the roof do you have any idea how bad that will be for your frame? for a car thats designed to HAVE a roof, your frame will twist and turn until your car literally falls apart. It will ruin any fun you could ever have, just because the handling will be IMMENSELY horrible.
I was thinking the exact same thing, its a unibody....not a chevy luv with a box frame on the bottom.
is this kid 17 years old or what.....wow....just wow.

x2. restore the car to its original condition, don't fucken ruin it. weld in a new roof and call it good. it'll be less work to put a new roof in than to weld in a cage.

i'm not seeing the tech in your post. you obviously don't have anything useful to add.

dude i mean, why stop at the roof? just cut the whole body away. doors, quarter panels, take off the fenders. just sit on the chassis and hope for the best.
