Squeaking when turning the wheel

I got a 97 DC. When I turn the wheel either to the left or right, even when the car is off, there is a loud squeaking noise. I also hear a slight squeak when I get in and out of the car. I replaced both outter tie rod ends but the problem is still there. When I raise the car in the air and turn the wheel there is no squeaking, but then as soon as I lower the car back to the ground and turn the wheel the squeaking returns. Is that a symptom of bad ball joints or the rack and pinion?

Re: Squeaking when turning the wheel
did you check your axle boot. if its torn it does cause clicking and maybe sometimes sqeaks. butits just hard to tell. and for the axle boot proposal, it typically only does make the noise when the car is turning...

Re: Squeaking when turning the wheel
either upper or lower balljoint.
if they don't have grease nipples, try getting some lube in behind the boot to isolate which one

Sounds like the balljoints are making noise.
