Default Special lugnuts

Ya know, like the Rays lug or the mugen lugs, i know that you need a special socket to take them on and off but do those locks varies form set to set. If i have a mugen socket can i go and take off another mugen lug from a different car? same with the RAYS and where ever companies that make special lugs

There are a couple different Rays keys...it is not guaranteed that one key will work with another set.

This always comes up.

Dont overtighten them, your key wont strip. Dont use an airgun to tighten them, the key wont strip.

Mackin Industries (Kyokugens importer) addressed the issue maybe a year ago. Kyokugen lugnuts now come with an upgraded key from the old thin potmetal key that everyone so readily bashes. You can get this key for free through Mackin, or in any of the newer kits. The new key is thicker and stronger, but hand torqueing is still recommended.

Until the next "Kyokugen key strips, they suck" thread...

anyone ever use those wheel locks that have a round outer shell that just spins, and you need a key to take off the shell

Me and a few friends have used hte "upgraded" design. While i admit it sucks less than the pictures i've seen of the old design, i still think it sucks.

RJ - who never overtorques (has a torque wrench), always uses anti seize and never uses an airgun on his nutz
