Default short shifter install issue

so i tried to install my short shifter yesterday. anyway, i got my shift linkage off, and i got the actual assembly out, but i cant get the actual shifter out of the assembly. here's the problem, there seems to b a little plate on the bottom of the shifter that actually hold the shifter in place, and i tried to take the nuts off, but off course they would b rusty as hell. so, instead of the nut coming off the entire thing started spinning. hopefully anyone that has taken the shifter out knows what i'm speaking of. but if u don't it's not a bolt and nut. it's more of a bolt that isn't meant to spin and a nut. and of course the bolt thing is spinning so it is now impossible to take the nut off. i tried holding it with a pair of plies and spinning the nut but that didn't work. does anyone know of a way i can get this off???

they have flat head on top, get a drill bit and drill threw it from inside the car downward, ittl take a few minnutes each one cause their long and thick u need a same size drill bit, of the bolt, use titanium if u can afford the extra buck or two or three cause it wont run as hot and you will be less likley to need two .. also cordless drill will be useless, get some POWER in there and dont be afraide to press on it, also dont keep yer bit out to long yer shifter is above yer exhaust. then yer bolts will fall out and you will need to buy new bolts and just use nuts and washers

I was always able to use a pair of pliers on one end while ratcheting the other end. If you can get a friend to help cause it's much easier to have someone under the car turning the bolt while the other holds the top part with pliers.

No need for power tools at all. Vise-grips should do the job nicely.

My buddy installed my short shifter last weekend and had the same issue. I dont know too much about cars, but if youre talking about the 2 flat top screws that screw near the shifter under the boot, then yeah mine were rusted like crazy. 2 of us, I held it in place, he got it out. It was a bitch to get out though, but it worked.

Do this. Don't drill the bolts.
