scratching noise????
ok well when i start my car and warm it up then i put it in first gear and start going i hear a scratching noise as if metal scratching metal sort of sound and it still scratches until second gear for a lil while until the noise is just gone. the noise last for about 5-15 seconds and is only there when i start the car for the first thing of the day and go, and for the rest of the day it doesnt make the sound any more unless i leave my car off for probably a few hours and start it and go then it'll have the scratching noice again for a few seconds. any idea what it could be? and its not my brake pads either. it sounds as if its coming from my engine bay somewhere. could it be my clutch or something? any ideas will be helpful. thanks.
It sounds like a bearing of some kind. Does it get better or worse if you give the car gas? It could be a a/c tensioner pulley bearing, distributor bearing, alterator bearing, etc. If you're not mechanically inclined I'd bring it to a mechanic to get looked at because it will only get worse if it is a bearing.
Sound to me like its your AC pulley it may be loose! Go check it out its to the right side of the Valve cover if you are standing infront of your car. Its down in a little ways so you might need a flashlight. If it is the pulley cut the AC belt and the pulley should fall threw the bottom. When I did mine it got stuck and I had to use a lang lagistic magnet.
