Default Safe to wash engine?

Hi all,

I would like to know if it is safe to spray water and wash the engine of an integra assuming all parts of the engine are stock. Would it cause any rustings and malfunctions to the components of the engine? Thanks!

You're going to want to cover the filter and the distributor.

After you cover all that up...use a little simple green or GUNK for degreaser. It works wonders

Dont need to cover nothing up, just make sure the spark plugs covers are on all the way and if you have a open element filter, then cover that. otherwise spray when the engine is cool and then wash and drive immediately so the engine will heat up and dry the engine. Also use low pressure, if using garden hose, spray lightly.

you need to cover up all of the ignition peices and the intake filter, if you dont and just spray everything down be ready to buy a new cap/rotor/ignition

Cover all the elec. components up. Spray engine bay with GUNK engine degreaser, let that set for 10 mins or so, then hose(gentle spray) everything off real good. Then dry with towels.

-Aaron who needs to clean his FILTHY FILTHY engine bay...

My boyfriend(EJseven) did this to his civic today, he covered up the battery, dizzy, alternator, and plugs. As soon as he was done he took it for a 20 min. drive, everything was dry when he got back home.

i just cover my valve cover, distributor, and timing belt (no upper cover cuz of gears)...i just use this sweet degreaser from work, it does an awesome job...i also dont bother drying it, i just drive it afterwards-i figure it will steam clean itself.

I did once, no problems at all.

Although I wouldn't do it to often as I heard its pretty strong stuff and after repeated uses it may strip paint.

if you plan on using simple green to clean the valve cover, make sure to dilute it with water as using it by itself will after a while begin to strip the red off

try using those high presured keyboard cleaner **** to spray the spots you want clean.. or spray the whole engine without being scared you might rust somthing.. and if some spots are left over try using a rag and a bit a water =]

Yap.. Simple Green

I used garbage bags to cover the battery, alternator and I avoided spraying the distrib.

Spray car and go for a drive. Outcome:

Comes in handy for other places too:
