S80 Transmission quick help

S80 Transmission quick help
Ok, my friend has a Hydro S80 Transmission, he drops out of vtec when he's at WOT through the gears. His vtec is set at 5400k everytime he changes through gears at about 7k it drops out of vtec, unless he goes all the way to 8500k. what tranmission is he most likely to have?
ls tranny is what i'm assuming. unless he has a gsr tranny which i think not.
anyone input?
