Default Ripped off, or truth?

Here's the story...

I joined not too long ago when I received my 96 teg (GSR motor)...we sent it up to a tuning shop here in Fort Worth, TX, and we're wondering if these people are ripping us off. They've had my car for 7 weeks on Tuesday. My dad has talked to them and they've told him that something was wrong with the turbo.

We sent the turbo back up to where we bought it, and the guy told us nothing was wrong with it, rebuilt it anyway, and sent it back to us free of shipping and handling...my friend took the turbo back up to the place, and they said again that something was wrong with the turbo, but then felt stupid when my dad told them that it was completely rebuilt (I can't see how they couldn't tell...it was clean!).

Well, the people told us that at 11 psi the teg was making 250 hp...is that normal? Because I had a civic with a B16 swap and it was making about 270 at 9 psi...

So, I was wondering if anyone with this similar setup has the same thing?:

Garrett T3/T4 turbo
Skunk 2 intake manifold
AEM cam gears
GReddy exhaust (2.5 inch opening)
P28 Hondata S200 ECU

So yea...let me know.

not on a b18 even if it was an ls it should be making alot more power than that... unless it is untuned or tuned for torque or something

Yea see...my dad's really not happy with these people, so tomorrow we're going to make them tow it to a different tune shop...they're a little more expensive, but they'll at least do the **** right. Being that I went from a 1.6 making 270 @ 9 psi to a 1.8 making supposedly 250 @ 11 psi just doesn't make sense...

I would have to say that they are most likely "******* you over". I had a similar, but way worse situation and I learned from it not to take my car to a "shop" to have any work done and never pay up front. I found out that the business I took it to didn't even have a business license and is therefore illegal, which means I can't legally force them to do anything they promised, but also that they legally can't accept any money for services rendered.
I would have to say (not just by my experience, but other friends') that about 75% of the time, a shop will do you shady.

a lot of shops don't have the necessary equipment to tune hondata nor have the experience with it. it's not your turbo that's fucked up, they're blaming it on something else to cover up their own dumbshit mistakes. find a hondata certified tuner or use another program.

A turbo either works or it doesn't work. If there was something wrong with it, it would have grenaded itself upon spooling up. If it produces boost without falling apart, then it isn't a turbo issue.

I would be wary of a shop that blames something on a turbo, since they obviously don't know what they are doing since they made that assumption.

What kind of T3/T4 is it? How much boost? If it isn't making as much power as it should, then it is something tuning or motor related.

Well, my dad picked it up from that shop today, and he said that when he was driving out of there, it felt like nothing...an escort probably could have pulled me...but then when they took it home, my friend was installing the digital boost controller and just from that my dad was saying it was so much stronger, and I took a ride and yea...it feels a lot stronger than from what I've heard...so we'll see what happens at the next tune shop :\ Thanks guys.

Hey man, take it to Velocity Performance in Carrollton. The guys there a fawkin awesome. I had my LS-turbo tuned there this past saturday, 254whp@ 10psi on stock motor. Trust me these guys will take care of you, $150/hour dyno tuning and they definately know what they are doing. You should see all the crazy stuff that comes out of there shop, a couple of guys on here have built motors from them and a few guys at team-integra as well.

Ha, well, #1...I'm a girlie #2...yea, that's true, I'm not THAT impressed haha, but it's better than what they said my teg was supposedly making...the only real thing we need right now before tuning is to make my air/fuel ratio guage work...it's not connected quite yet...but we called up Jotech, and being that they're in "racing season" they don't have any openings until next Thursday...so yea. My friend and I are workin on just switching the system and stuff...little things, you know...we're gettin there...and I'll definately have pics soon...

I've got a 94 gsr with turbonetics t3/t4, rc's 750cc injectors, 2.5 inch exhaust to an n1 muffler and hondata s200b and I'm running 295@10psi at the wheels. You should be pushin more for sure. I'm from MN and I've heard good things about Jotech. They'll hook you up phat!

Man....who the hell tuned a b16 for 290 @ 9 psi? And why aren't you going back to them? Those are some VERY impressive numbers for low boost.

She said 270, not 290. But still pretty high numbers

Definately will keep you updated...and I'm itching to take pics! We've currently misplaced the digi cam, so believe me...it's killing me haha...

I do have a new question! My friend and I were switching my system from the civic to the teg, and the stereo and everything works, but the amps won't turn on...we're going to check the grounds again, being that that should be the only real problem...the amps (2) are pretty much brand new...I didn't break them or anything, and so yea...we're thinking it might be the paint on the chassy that's in between the two metals...any suggestions? Let me know-gracias

If you have a multimeter, make sure you have +12V from the battery power wire, when you have the stereo on, make sure you have +12V at the remote turn on. but if you didn't scrape off the paint between the ground and ground terminal, thats probably your problem.

You can also use a wire jumper from the +12 Battery terminal to the remote turn on terminal in order to test the possibility of a break in the remote turn on wire. Also, check to see if you turn on the radio that the amp turns on. If thats the case, the amp turn on lead is hooked up to the power antenna wire. One is blue and one is blue with a white stripe, so its easy to get them mixed up.

i didnt read all your post...

to compare motors you should dyno them on the same dynometer... different dynos read differently and the ranges are big, compare a mustang dyno to a dynojet...
