replacing Synchro's....
Would start with your shifter bushings. Cheap and easy and well worth it.
Otherwise I read in the tech/misc section about a bearing that comes out of its hole a little and causes popping out, not sure if that was for 5th gear or 2nd.
You would have to open the case for that but it should be relatively easy.
check tech/misc or some of bense's threads. That is mainly the tranny section any more.

A damaged gear, sleeve, or synchro spring can prevent the sleeve from fully interlocking with the gear.
The 5th gear and synchro set should be replaced. A damaged gear usually means that the synchro sleeve is damaged as well.
Total cost in parts should be around $200.
