Default Removing bolt from cat...?

When I installed my comptech exhaust last week I ended up stripping one of the three bolts coming from the cat. I took of the cats heatshield to see if I could remove the bolt and replace it. I don't think it's wleded on there at all but, it wouldn't come off even after a few wacks with a hammer. Anyway, should I just have a shop cut off the bolt and replace it with a new one? I'm afraid in awhile I'll end up with an exhaust leak. I think that's way the exhaust has been pinging so bad.

Any other ideas? Thanks

Hey RuskeR:

I think this is what you are talking about.

If your stud looks anything like this, I'd say just keep torquing that bolt on, until you get a tight enough seal. this is what I had to do and had no problems afterwards.

Yeah mine looks the excat same way. Can that bolt be taken out and replaced? I've hit it a few times with a hammer but, it doesn't move at all. Guess I need a shop to do it?

you really have to give that bolt a good whack it has a gnurled head that grips intothe meatla of th ecat plate it bolts up to. and any bolt will work to replace it so don't go out and bu a honda bolt for five buck. even if it is standard it will work. i had the similar problem but mine was the bolts were rusted to the cat so i had to dremel the rust off the lip so i could get those bolts off(renedering the locking bolts useless) so i just wentto the hardware store bought 1 1/2" bolts two washers and two nuts. fixed it and they are new so when you need to work on em later they'll come off easier.

I remember when I was doing my exhaust on my old car, first we took off the heat sheild around it to get the best access. Sprayed it with some sort of lube, and used the biggest cheater bar we could. We both pulled with all of our might and it came out pretty easy then.

Yeah the problem is the bolt is stripped. So I cannot put a nut on unless I replace the bolt. So, just keep whacking it with a hammer? haha
