piston ring question
Is the piston ring supposed to be loose on the piston or tight cause i bought some piston with the rings and the owner said everything was working but the rings are loose is that normal any help would be great if you have a pix of how its supposed to look like would be better thanks.
Well the rings press outward onto the cylinder walls, so that would be away from the piston, making them loose on the piston before install. If the rings aren't new, replace them and clock them correctly. Also measure ring gap. You sure your up to this?
They are supposed to be loose. That is why a piston ring compressor is needed to install the pistons into the bore.
If you are trying to reuse piston rings, don't. Get a new set, gap them properly and hone your motor before installation or they won't seal properly.
