Obd2 to obd1 conversion
I typed obd conversion in the search box. But came up with nothing. I have a 1998 gsr. I have installed a cold air intake,dc exhaust and dc header. All parts are California carb legal(I live in California) . I want to do some head work(cams, gears, valves, spring, etc) . But I believe the obd2 cars can't be tuned. What is all need to change over to a obd1 setup, so I can do some running? What computor, harness, etc? And for you guys that live in California will it be california carb legal or should I purchase something pre obd2 instead? And if I should what do you recommend. I had bi plans of buying a clean 2000 Si and swapping a itr complete conversion but being here in califorina I think it would turn into a big project to get past thru DMV. Let's put it this way. There are 1000's of cars on craigslist that are in bard and they are useless. If this thread has been done a million time I apologize and please remove the thread. By the way I am new to the honda seen so it might take me alittle bit to get ahold on all the does and donts. But I will get there with help!!
You need an OBD1 p72 ecu, or another similar ECU with IAB control added (P28).
Check phearable.net and xenocron.com.
You also need to decide how you are going to tune the ECU. That is a question you should be asking your tuner, as they are familiar with certain tuning software products (Hondata, Neptune, Crome) and may not be familiar with others. Usually the ECU will have a preloaded basemap for you to drive to the tuner on.

Thanks, I have now started to do some reading up on changing over my obd2 to a obd1. It looks like I have to buy a harness adapter and a p72 or p28 obd1 ecu. As I check around three are alot of companies that sell these ecu and offer a tune to what mods are on my car just to get me started with(dc header, welcome air intake, and dc cat back exhaust). But the more I read the more I get confused. I am being told my car has an iab which needs to be controlled by the obd1 ecu ( so there is a charge for the extra controller in the obd1 ecu). Or is there was around that like being held open all the time. And should I make sure the ecu I get has knock sensor delete? And what else should I look for when purchasing? And who are some of the reputable companies our there to buy from. Should I stay away from flea bay? Thanks
Sorry i noticed in the last post yOu mention I need the iab control. Thanks
