94 gsr.
the b18c1 is one of the best engines to modify. there is also a very large market for aftermarket parts for this engine. if i could afford it, that is what i would get.

just my .02

It all depends on how much money you are willing to spend, give us some numbers and we will be able to help you out a little better.

You can find a nice third gen GSR with under a 100k miles on it for less than $10k. Just look around a little more and don't be to eager to jump on the first one that you see

Wow...I would not pay anywhere near 15-18k for an 8 year old car. You can easily find 94-96 GSRs for around 9k. Just hit cars.com and autotrader.com and search in your area, I'm sure you'll find one within a week or two.

Thats good advice. Patience is the key if you want to find the car in the best condition.

Well, since I assume you don't want a 2nd gen teg, I would recomend going with a 94 RS, and swaping in a b18c1, or an LS/vtec, or a b20/vtec, or a turbo LS. Why a 94 RS? It's mad light y0... and super cheap. I know you said you didn't want to mess with a swap, but it would be a very easy swap. Some numbers:

94 GSR: 2667 lbs.
94 RS: 2570 lbs.
01 ITR: 2639 lbs.

Sorry, but a 94 RS is a 3rd gen. I have a 1996. They are light. What do you want to use the car for? If it's autox, then it will make a great autocrosser with the stock B18B and some well thought out mods.

If you read my post, you will see that I didn't say it was a 2nd gen. I picked a 94 because to my knowlege, it is the lightest 3rd gen, and would theoreticaly be the cheapest.

From what I hear, the OBDI GSRs have somewhat of a better ECU. It does not make the car faster, but it responds to modifications better. I hope that this helps you.

If he wanted to do a swap, it would be better to just get a Civic and not swap a B18C1 into a RS. That's just my opinion.

this is one guy's opinion, but overall the 94-95 DC2 integ. GS-R is the best car you can get in its price range, and better than several cars above its price range. Think about it, of course you get a compotent chassis and a motor to match, as well as a vehicle that responds positively to modifications with much aftermarket support, but you also get a practical ride which isn't hard on the eye.
