ok, i just got my car back from gettin a new motor put in. i noticed it was shiftin kinda funny, kind of gummy feeling. so i took it upon myself to chekc the fluid level. so i jacked the car up and checked my book to see what the fluid level should be. it said at the correct level it should be right below the bolt hole level. well, when i took off the bolt, fluid came flyin out and went all over the place. im gonna guess and say it was overfilled a bit? should i let it drain out until it is below that level or what? help me please help me please!

yeah the 17 mm filler hole, so i should let it drain out and push it off the ramps so its level? cuz i dont think i can get to that bolt while its on the ground?
...then securely jack up the back so its about the same height, it doesnt make a HUGE difference.
Honda spec is 2.2 qts, and if it isnt level you will spill out a little too much and get like 2.1 qts.
Or fill it with like 2.3 and slam the bolt in quick so you dont lose more than .1
Many ways, but dont over/underfill by much because youll start burnin up sheit.

Are you sure you didn't remove the drain bolt? If you're on the passenger side of the car, the filler bolt is slightly above and to the left (towards the rear of the car) of where the axle comes out of the differential.
When I changed my clutch I filled the tranny while the front end was in the air. I came back later and filled it while the car was level, and got at least another 1/3 quart in there. You definitely want the car to be level when you check the fluid.
Another thought, maybe your tranny was filled with the car level, and by removing the filler bolt with the front end up in the air, some of that fluid is going to come out, leaving your tranny underfilled.

he confirmed the 17mm though, not the 3\8.
Im sure though even if you jack up the front (in moderation) you dont lose more than about .2 qts over level.

Still, if it's filled properly w/ the car level, and then the filler bolt is removed with the front end raised, some fluid will probably "shoot out" as he described, even if it's just a small amount.
