Default Is the MSD SCI-L really worth it?

My friend got an MSD SCI-L and he was wondering if it was really worth it. He wants to get a turbo but this thing is going to set him back like $200. I know its not much but would this ignition box be really worth the money he paid for it? Is he going to notice anything by installing this on his car? He already has the MSD cap and external coil. Thanks for any info you could give on this matter.

Nope, not worth it. The stock ignition system is plenty capable.

I think that if you only have bolt-ons its not worth the money because the stock ignition is strong enough to burn all the gas that a stock fuel pump can throw and then some, but if you have significantly upgaded your air/fuel system (upgraded fuel injectors <450cc inline fuel pump and are pushing more than 8lb on a turbo) it will definatly give more power output since more fuel and air need a bigger and stronger spark.

Yep, I agree. You will not need one unless you are running FI or Nitrous. I've seen multiple dyno's of 200whp+ NA tegs with the stock ignition.

Well he is going to get a turbo and run about 8 psi's. He is going to have to get an intank fuel pump and bigger injectors (440 RC) to run with his Hondata.

He still wont need one.

People have this misconception that everything must be "upgraded when going FI."

The stock ignition system is plenty capable to support up to well over most peoples aspirations with their cars. Upgrading the ignition system will only be necessary if you see that it specifically is a hindrance to your setup, which in most cases it isnt. Simple maintenance...cap/rotor/plugs/wires and youre set.

You need to wait out your trial status...15 days, then you get the full board features...just so you learn the ins and outs of the board first.
