Default Motor Mount insert question...

During the installation, does the engine need to be supported from underneath with a jack? The online tutorials I've read say nothing about this, but it seems like there should be some kind of support...

I used this site as my guide for doing mine (of which I still haven't gotten the rear one in yet). Their method worked well for the front mounts, and they do recommend supporting the engine from underneath for installing the rear mount.

The rear mount, by the way, is pretty tough to get at. I didn't even give it an honest effort. I'm going to put it in when I do my clutch and flywheel next month.

Good luck.

By the way, if you haven't purchased the mount inserts yet, Suspension Restoration Parts has about the best price going, with great customer service.

Looks like you only need the jack for the rear mount and not the front two...

yup.....that turorial worked well for the mounts. i have only done the front two mounts myself...but they only took about 15 minutes a piece.....nice and easy. the rear mount, however, is a major pain. i have a civic so my rear mount is a bit different than the one in the tutorial. i had the engine supported, unbolted the entire mount bracket, jacked the engine up a bit, had the bracket loose, but could not remove it because the intake manifold was in the way. i could also not get to the 3 bolts that were holding the actual mount down to the frame. i was trying to remove the bracket so i could just slip the inserts on with the mount on the car still.....no luck. it was not a fun time. oh well....ill get it one of these days. maybe i will find a good tutorial for the civic somewhere. good luck with your mounts.....you'll love em...

CHRIS

oh yeah....and a jack is not needed for the front two....they are lower mounts and the upper mounts will support the engine while you remove the lowers.....

The rear is a pain. However, there is a trick. Goto my website:

http://www.turbointegra.blike.com

Click on How To and then click on engine mount.
