Default the math doesn't add up. Magic horespower!!

ok so heres the problem. I bought a used 97 teg gsr and its fast. It came with aem cold air, cams, cam gears, dc header, tanabe racing medallion exhaust, lowered with 17s, neuspeed clutch. gsr's make 178 horses right? Well te thing is a raced to s2000's on the highway last weekend. I hung with both from 50 mph to about 145, and mean right next to them. The problem is, s2000's make 248 stock, they both had vafc, intake, header, exhaust, and ignition. If i'm conservative i give them about 280 hp. And if i'm generous with mine i would say i have about 230. I'm fairly sure a s2000 is lighter than a teg with two people, two 12" subs, and crap in the trunk. When we pulled over their jaws were hangin open and demanding i pop my trunk. So what the hell is up? I have a magic hp genie or what?

s2000 horsepower = 240
gsr horsepower = 170

the s2000 owner doesn't know how to drive..............u dont' have over 200 hp.....no way. u would be lucky with 170 with that setup u also loose way big amounts of hp in the drivetrain. most stock gsr's have 140-150hp on the dyno......with ur mods looking at 160-165

Gsr - 170
S2000 - 240
You don't have near 230 unless you have some wild cams.

Dats right! there is a magic HP genie hiding inside your engine. I have one too.

If you really want to know how much power you're making, go get your car dyno'd.
If you really want to know how fast you are, go to the track.

You don't have magic horsepower. But there a chance you have one of those wednesday cars (factory freaks). Once you tell us your setup then we will know more about what you have for whp. Just telling us you have cams doesnt mean anything....you could have itr, ctr, jun, toda, skunk2.....the power ranges are all over the place. Once you find out whats in your ride then let us know. Im not surprised that you hung with a S2000, i've seen plenty of them go down to well modded cars. Plus i've seen a bunch with drivers that don't know where the pedal is (running 15.8's-16.6's at the track, haha). I've even seen a supercharged sk2 run a 14.9...not that impressive considering the car should run low 14's stock and some have run high 13's without even modding it. so it could very well be the driver. But its not like your car is slow, you should have quite a bit of lift with your setup..i say you hung with him because your car is fast and his was stock ...either way just find out about your car.

Also one more thing....when you pulled over the guys in the sk2's demanded to see what was in your TRUNK???.....why did they think you had a few fred flinestones in the back running along to make the car move quicker.....if they didn't know that the motor is under the HOOD then maybe thats why there cars stayed with you......

I love that out of all the responses, most people just hated on the dude and made fun of him because he didnt know what he was talking about.

Yet the key thing here being the Cams...only one person asked, "what kind of cams?"

Try giving some more helpful responses guys before just bashing people. Also, I find it hard to believe that someone can be such a poor driver from a roll...all youre doing is flooring it and shifting. It can be a number of things...sure you can have a "strong motor" but depending on maintenance of the cars, what cams youre running, how it was tuned, weight of the cars, etc etc...who knows. Way too many variables and not enough info to tell you.

The only way to find out, go to a dyno. Streetracing is not a tool for measuring horsepower
