Default maintnance required light?

i have 98 LS, 63,000 miles.. i just noticed last night i turned my car on the "maint reqd" light was blinking... how do i find out why this light is on? do i need to take it into a shop or what? thanks

it's just a reminder for maintenance for the forgetful... It's more of an annoyance than a help for most people though.

no, u dont really need to take it in. There is a lil button that you will feel under your dash.....if you put the key in the ignition with it towards on but dont start it, jus thit the button till it goes out......Very easy to reset!

most the time it means u need to change ur oil..........

The light doesn't know if you need to change your oil or not. As others have stated, it comes on at set mileage intervals.

i have the same car you do mines an auto and my light comes on when i manually shift for any reason. so who knows i noticed that it came on after i hit 50 k so who knows why it comes on ! i have looked for the button to reset it but i cant find it please get into greater detail of its whereabouts a pic would help! for now the pic of my girl will do its a great cover up !!!

get down on your back and look up underneath your steering wheel....if it is there...u cannot miss it!!...

You manually shifting your automatic has no effect on the maintenance light. The procedures to reset the light are located in the owner's manual. But basically, you just need to hold a switch thats located above your pedals in the car.

The only light that flashes for a transmission problem is if the D4 flashes on your tach.
