why would you turn off a light that is telling you something is wrong? maybe you wanna check for problems on your car instead of trying to get rid of the light

the maintanace required light is just to remind you when to change your oil.. its set to start turning off at a certain amount of intervals, the light doesnt mean tehres something wrong, its just a reminder.

omg, for the few guys that dont get it, IT IS NOT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT! like the others said its basicly goes of at certian intervails. doesnt mean something went wrong. just shows when to change your oil and all that nonsense. i just reset mine when ever its starts to do its thing. u just hold the button, its under the dash to the right of the steering colum i belive, anyway just hold it in and start the car then its gone.

It will flash like 5 or 6 times for a couple hundred miles before the next interval, mainly as a reminder that the next scheduled maintence is coming up. When the light stays solid is when your supposed to do your maintence.

so why will a light pop on telling you to do something when you dont need to do it. there's obviously something that needs to be done, the light doesnt pop up randomly. and to some guy who said "just shows when to change your oil and all that nonsense." what nonsense are you talkin about. you guys must not care about your cars

go look in the owners manual or helms. Its to tell you when you should get maintence done on your vehicle, oil change, regular tune at interval that the factory think necessary. If you do maintence on your own vehicle, you dont really have to follow that.

So yea if that were true and there still was a problem after he reset it the light would just come back on. I have to reset mine every so often because it is set to go off. If it was the freakin CEL he would be a moron but it is just the main req light. Thats why you can reset it yourself. Regardless if he changes the oil before the designated time for the odometer it will still go off even if he just changed it.

the maintenance light goes off every x amount of miles. These are usually major maintenance cycles. Look up maintenance schedule and see what is corresponding to your present mileage. There is a way to reset the light yourself, but you need to use the search button in the top right of the screen to find the answer.

I was bored and used the search button and found the second link, I used google for the first one.

maintenance schedule
maintenance light reset procedure

if he hasn't kept up with his maintenance then there are a lot of things to do; however if he's not a dumbass and knows when to change his oil, coolant, plugs, cap, rotor, pads, fuel filter, and whatever else (I don't feel a long list is necessary) then it is perfectly fine for him to just push the little button (my gsr's button is to the right of the steering column under the dash an inch or two).

All these guys talking about maintenance cycles, schedules, or whatever terminology they used are correct and you should listen to them. If you doubt that get a haynes, chilton, or maybe even a quality service manual for your car and look in the front.

And it is not a check engine light as well. As many have said.

Just thought I would sum it all up.

The light goes on at scheduled intervals as ALL of us have said.

It is a reminder light. NOT a fatal engine problem light. If you perform regular maintenence on your car, you can reset this light and forget about it until it flashes again...
