you can use any vtec ECU. the p28 is just tuners choice. gsr ECU is a p72, p28 is off a civic, either a b16 or single cam. if your motor was in another car already and your swapping it over why dont you just swap ecu's as well? im assuming that cause you say you are pushing 218whp.

Tuners like the obd1 p28/obd1 p72 ecu choices for the b series. obd1 is easier to chip and they both are vtec ecu's.

maybe because tuners only chip OBD1 ECU's..

Do you even know what "chipped" means? Just because you have a chipped ECU does not mean it's the right one for your application. I can sell you a chipped P28 right now with my street tuned base map for my B20 non-vtec but that does not mean it's going to run your "stock" ls/vtec very well now does it? Also, how do you have a "stock" ls/vtec? I did not know Honda picked up on us building up their **** motors to support Vtec and put them into production

A P72 will have the ability to open/close the secondaries if you are using a GS-R head. I would get an aftermarket ECU for tuning, or chip the P72 then tune.

I'm sure he meant he used all OE Honda "stock" parts for the build.

lol, that was a common criticism made by OG honda tech members back when the ls/vtec's first became more popular and people were referring them to stock. Me being one of them lol. Not to date myself but it was something like 3 or so years ago when I would get flamed for stating "My stock ls/vtec pwned xxx kind of car" lol.

mmmkkayy? Tuning software is tuning software, nobody made any claims that Hondata was leaps and bounds better than a chipped ecu however they did say that a built motor would run much better on Hondata than a stock ECU.

thats a given.

of course a hondata ecu will run better than a stock ECU, but to say it will run better than a chipped ecu is stupid. they will run the same, just hondata has some other goodies to it. thats it.

a chipped ecu will make the most out of the ls/vtec setup..and to the person that said a ls is a **** motor you dont know what you are talking about.A p72 if you have a gsr head and intake would make the car run the best.or you could buy any obd1 vtec ecu and have it chipped for a basemap ls/vtec.ls/vtec is arguably better then a gsr engine because of the long stroke of the ls engine. And you cannot chip a obd2 ecu.It cant be done!!!!
