Default Ls/vtec or gsr engine

I was wondering which decision would be my best decision. I have an 96 RS with a B18B1 engine and I'm thinking between buying a gsr engine or do LS/vtec.which one do you guys recommend me to do and which one will be cheaper. Where I live I can get a gsr engine for like $1500-$2000 out of japan.

I heard the ls/vtec is faster than the gsr and cost less to do. But I also heard it's not very reliable. my opinion is to go with the gsr or turbo that ls..(that's what i did)
Do more search on here to find out more info.

get a gsr engine if you can get it that cheap, all you need is the engine tranny and ecu should be less than 3 grand if you do the swap yourself

ls/vtec or gsr good question

i had lsvtec then i went to gsr one thing i can tell u i felt i was missing something......

torque and compression i had an ls/vtec with itr cams, usdm itr rods, gsr head milled .003 with dc sport 4-1

vs my gsr with stock bottom end mmilled .003 port and polishd and skunk stage 2 cams along with a DTR header

still till today i loved that extra torque ls/vtec is sick if built right

now i got all the torque in the world

If you can get a LS-V or CR-VTEC built right, go for that!

gsr
if you think about it type r/gsr/b16 blocks were built to spin at high rpm's from honda. meaning they are balanced to factory tolerances. this is why stock type r's can spin above 9000rpm safely and gsr's to 9000 rpn. when you take a ls or b20 which stock are only good to spin a low 7500-8000 rpm safely. going above that puts stress on the block internals. most if not all people that go ls/b20 vtec spin to atleast a stock gsr rev limiter 8200. in my opinion type r or gsr. if your looking for torque make it with your cams (toda spec b's), bigger bore, or stroke it to a 1.9L or 2.0L.

It depends upon how well built the LSVTEC is. Also, it's not likely that you'll find a complete GSR swap for that cheap. maybe a longblock and an ECU. I think that the best option is to not do anything and establish some goals. When you have done that, then research which option will best help you reach those goals, and then go through with the plan.

GSR, i'm not too much of an LS/VTEC fan. i have friends that have them, but i still can beat them in my almost stock GSR. i guess it's how you build it up. i think the LS/VTEC is a fad for now and will be gone tomorrow.

do the gsr. only do the ls vtec if you get some b16 pistons or itr or something with high compression or the car will feel like crap. I wouldnt do the ls/vtec though but thats just my opinion.

LS/VTEC motors have alot of potential however imo and from what i have seen, they tend to be un reliable for the most part. i have met a few locals with LS vtec set ups that were un reliable. IE went through a few head gaskets in less then 4 months..another kid had oil leaks all over the place.. dont get me wrong.. a good LSVTEC set up can be reliable if built right. But usually can cost a pretty penny. IMO would be better to stick with a gsr motor because of reliability issues, especially if you dont have the money to build a GOOD lsvtec set up.. just my 02 cents
