I've never adjusted the perch via the c-clip...I imagine if you've got gumby arms you could perform the operation with the shock still installed and springs unloaded.
I heard some guy managed to get a spring compressor on the spring
while it was still mounted to the car, and then lowered the circlip.
I would just take them off.
But if your asking because your thinking of buying them, I think the
general procedure would be to remove them first.

You must have springs that lower the car so much that they aren't compressed at all when the car is raised up off the ground.

It would be different w/ the sp3's the rod is shorter and the
spring (depending on what ones you have) is not decompressed.
I can see how that would be easy with the OTS yellows.
