Key failure
Ok ive been having the weirdest **** going on with my key. i put the key in and turn it to the on position. nothing happens. the dash lights are supposed to come on but never do. i have to wiggle the key abck and forward to get it to a specific point then the lights come on then i can start it. now if the key gets moved a hair buy bumping it or hitting a pothole the car shuts off. also when i try to start the car by turning the key it wont start so i had to wire a push button for it. any idea on why this is happening?
usually wear on the key. try to find the valet key, and have a regular master key made from that. the only difference is the thickness of the key, so it shouldn't be a problem.
i highly doubt it has anything to do wit the key itself but at the same time i havent tested the theory and cant since i lost the master key and just have two spares one of which ive tested
well, i've owned 3 hondas, and all have shown key wear on the master key, which was used regularly. so, i switched to using the valet with the first car, and that key was just like new, no wear at all. never had a problem with it, and it works every time, unlike the original.
as for copies, take your VIN to honda and they should be able to make you a new master key, perfect for your car. it will cost like $40, but you'll never have this **** again unless you own the car for like 150k more miles

that sounds promising and now that i think about i didnt start having key failure till i switched over to a set of copies i had made. but it didnt happen right away. it first started out by not wanting to start like there was a short in the starter signal. i really cant remember. so there is no way any of this can be electrical?

no.
no.
well i said 4 refering to the whole column thing and 24 because i thought it may be an electrical issue. everyone seems to agree its the key so ill take my chances and get a key made at acura first thing
if your not having a problem physically turning the key..its not they key or the key cylinder..from experience i can almost bet its the ignition switch..ive seen the points get worn down and had problems such as the yours

i've had 3 hondas, one with 220k miles, one with 95k, and another with 176k. and i deal with hondas every day. never seen an ignition switch go bad in a honda. now, take a chrysler or ford or something, then yes, i've seen those go bad just from people having heavy keychains on their car key, but never a honda.

well ive seen some **** happen on my own car that ive never seen hondas do before and i like to consider my self well versed in whats common and uncommon for a honda but this just kinda throws me for a loop. so im just going to replace both since the harness is only 25 bux and the key isnt that much either
why do that when you could replace one, see if that fixes it, then the other. i'd try the key first, but it's your car. oh, and i don't think the harness is to blame. it's the switch.
ok on my way to work the car just took a **** so i had to figure it out and get to work on time. i manage to get it to work by holding the key in the start up position and driving with one hand (starter is wired threw horn which is the only reason this workd) anyways, i dismantled the white cap on the column and found that the contacts on the inside had infact been glazed over and where not making good connections so i took a knife and filled them down and everything works great now so now i no what i need to replace

Or of course at approximately 112,763 miles.
