A friend of mine who has a honda says that if I find a used integra to buy, I shouldnt buy it if the engine has been swapped. Why is this? does it cause more problems? The engine is bigger than the last one that was in the car.

You can buy integras with swapped engines no problem. Just make sure it's a legal swap so you don't promote theft. See if he has a receipt etc. Also find out if the seller who has a swapped teg knew what he was doing with the swap or took it someplace that knew what they were doing. Make sure there are no engine codes, it runs smoothly, and it visually looks like it was put in right as well. No hack jobs. Also find out everything you can about the engine because when it comes time to replace a part if you don't know what you own it's hard to replace what you have no idea about.

Well u just gotta be more carefull.. If the person swapped in a different engine and didn't know what they were doing and screwed alot of things up then yeah don't think about getting it... But there's lots of ppl out there with the know how to swap engines just fine and the car should be plenty reliable. I have a swapped engine in my integra that I did myself and it's plenty reliable! Ya just gotta know what to look for. Ask the guy where he got the engine, ask him if he has receits for any maintenance done or if he's done it himself. Look the engine/tranny and the whole car over make sure everything is taken care of and maintenance is up to date. U can even take it to an auto shop and they'll tell u if everything checks out fine. So all and all, just know what u're getting urself into and make sure the car has been taken care of.

 

thanks guys for your quick azz responses lol but the owner of the car now said he took it to get the alternator replaced and i guess the mechanic told him that this wasnt the stock engine for a 1990 integra gs so he wouldnt have a receipt of the swap i have no idea of how he's been taking care of it and i dont know too much about cars as it is, but i do want to get into racing and learn as much as i possibly can about cars and i want a 5 speed im going to take my friend (the one that told me engine swaps with integras are bad) to the seller with me but he can only tell so much about it
