Default Intake

Would I gain any performance by taking off the lid to my Air Intake?

Someone I know did that, I just couldn't see the point when you can get a short ram intake for so cheap nowadays.

No, you won't gain anything. It will just sound different.

If I got a SRI would it be that loud that a cop would pull me over? I want something nice that isn't too loud.

Not at all, it gives it a nice sound but by no means is loud.

On a stock motor.... not much, 1-2hp. Throttle response is supposed to be better and fuel economy should improve 2-3%, and you also get a very nice sound out of it.

Again...barely anything but it's hella cheap and makes the motor sound really nice. Just don't think it's some godly mod like manufacturers will tell you.

I've heard to different sides to the story. Some people say that you lose performance because when you take the lid off your exposing the intake to the warm air around the motor. Others argue that with the lid off you get a better air flow so performance is better. I myself go with no air box at all. Sounds much cooler and v tec roars much louder

Can anyone else confirm that I get better fuel economy with a SRI? If that is true, that is enough to convince me to get one

you'll get better fuel economy by just putting in a k&n drop in filter on a stock intake system..

on a CAI or SRI, you'll notice your fuel consumption will actually be worse.... why you ask? ....because you'll always be shooting for WOT because you want to hear your intake. that's why.

when i have my AEM CAI on, i don't drive like a madman so i rarely hit redline or WOT... i really rarely shift past 5k anyways.. so my fuel consumption is actually better.. i'll get roughly 50-70 kms more out of a full tank.

edit: all highway driving for me anyways.

WOT = wide open throttle

drive normally and you will see good results.. make sure your car is up to date on maintenence as well...

Wide open throttle...

Its only loud when you are gunning it with an intake, so no cops will screw with you unless your revvin it out.

or you can go with a comptech ice box, set up which is pricey but yields nice power gains i think it said 19 on the dyno sheet, and not to loud. i had it on my gsr but when i went turbo that went bye bye, i still have it sitting in my house if u are intrested

your gas mileage will improve with intake/header/exhaust modifications.
This is making the engine breathe easier. Less restriction will give you more power/better fuel economy as long as your foot doesn't get heavier.

Yes, that is what I have and I think it's the best combo for the money. Good filter and no CAI to worry about any water ingestion. Fuel economy will improve, but just slightly. The stock airbox isn't all that horrible on Bseries.
We build an SRI for my friends Grand Cherokee though and he went from 14mpg to 16mpg which is huge, domestic airboxes suck

I'll vouch for the SRI with a K&N filter combo. It's the only mod on my 95 LS. It gives it a deeper sound. It's not too noticable with reasonable driving, but at WOT you can really hear it, especially around the redline. I bought a cheap eBay SRI that came with the K&N filter for &75 shipped. It was actually a CAI, but I only used the top half of the pipe.

I was wondering... instead of buying a SRI. Can I just take out the stock air box and just run a filter there? Of course I'll secure the filter down from moving all over the place. Would that work the same as getting a real SRI? Thanks.

K&N makes a drop in filter for the oem air box. It replaces the oem paper filter. This is good for a lil increase in air flow->power.
