Default Infamous Header Rattle

I installed a DC Sports 4-1 header on my 2k1 Integra GSR and now I've got that damned header rattle around 3k rpms. VERY VERY annoying!

I thought it might be the heat shield by the cat, since that is the area it sounds like it is coming from, but unless the cat is moving a good 2 inches there's no way it's hitting that. There was no rattle with the stock header.

The clearance on the oil pan concerns me, it's about 2mm, seams like a very likely place to be hitting, but it doesn't sound like it is coming from there and if it were I would think it would be a very common problem. And I have no clue how that would be fixed.

Everything I read seams to be about older itrs with a stock header, it has been rattling since I put the thing on when it only had 20k miles. Any ideas? or should I just give the people at DC Sports a punch in the stomach?

you're old header didn't rattle??? wow!!! i wish mine was like that.....i know i have more than 2mm between the header and the oil pan so that may be where it's rattling....

That is what I was thinking, but how would I fix that? I can't exactly move the header so there is more space....... I'm thinking that punching DC Sports is sounding like the thing to do.....

I still have my old header, 20k miles on it, I will sell it to anyone that wants it, but I think shipping on an item that heavy would not make it worth while.

So this seams to be a common issue, but no one has any solutions.

I had the same problem with my wifes 97 after i installed the header. what i did was I kinda tweaked the bracket. (the one that is bloted to the block that holds the downpipe) There are 2 bolts that hold the bracket to the block. i only used one, the top bolt. The bottom hole should be shifted away from the bolt hole towards the right if i can remember. at first I didnt think it would work cause its only one bolt holding the top, but it did. Hth

Did everyone use their gaskets?? It still might be the heat shield.. As for the persons that was squeaking during start up, did you install an aftermarket exhaust?? Sometimes the shifter will hit the pipe (if larger aftermarket) and will squeak at start up. Hope this can help someone!

The idea of upgrading the headers is now sounding very dodgy... BUmp for a good thread.

no leak. this bracket is bolted from the block to the downpipe. The bolt that you will remove is the bolt on the block side.

i have this problem too and its soooo annoying and soo embarassing! It started right after I installed my 4-2-1 DC Sports header. I have an APEXi N1 exhaust with it. The rattle is usually around 1,600 rpms. It is quite loud, and i have it at start up as well. The dealer and everyone who has looked and heard it said htey think its the heat shields, but i am soo fed up with it. Any fixes???

I may not be an expert on this subject, but perhaps what Ive read and heard may help. If not...just ignore, I guess...

Ive heard that the DC Sports headers have fitting issues when it comes to the installs and that the problem involves them hitting the heat shields (I know, pretty much going along with what everyone else has said...). With your header being a DC Sports, perhaps everyone is correct in saying its the heat shield, plus with the rep of DC Sports headers not fitting well...perhaps that IS your problem...who knows though...

Well i just bought a 96' integra RS and its been doing well until today. Right before hitting 109,000 miles on the odometer, it jus stopped even the trip miles. Another thing, as i come to a complete stop, a hear a whooshing sound that may be involved with my tires cuz every time they make a full rotation as i am nearing a complete stop i hear a sound. Please can you guys tell me wuts wrong?

Maybe you have one of those hidden $69.95 electric superchargers under your hood

As far as the rattling, if you have a stock header, the culprit is usually the B-pipe. The next best thing to check are the heat shields. If you have an aftermarket header then you should definitely check out your heat shields, especially the one on the CAT.

I had the same annoying rattling sound around similar stated RPMs...its gone now. It's been replaced by a WhiRrrRRing, whistling noise that goes PFfFFFsSsSsSH.
