Ok, so my motor has been sounding not good lately, so i assumed i needed to do a valve adjustment. The other day i was fooling around under the hood and thought to myself-- maybe i'm out of oil (very unlikely, but might as well check). Sure enough, i was out of oil. I am such an idiot-- how can i be running around w/ less then a qt of oil in my motor?!!?! I don't burn oil tho, thats the thing... How can i see if i've done any damage to the motor?

 

you can always take it into the dealer and have them take a look. . . but i say change the oil and see how it runs. if youve already been running it w/o oil then u relaly cant cause much mroe damage putting oil in and running it.

 

DOnt you have an oil warning light?

 

it only turns on when ur completely out of oil.

 

and your wanting to boost? ehhhhhh

 

I had the same problem...just take it to the dealer and let them figure it out

 

I believe the sensor senses oil pressure not oil quanity.

Dang...how often do u do ur oil change??? if ur car eats a lot of oil in between oil change, there must be something seriously wrong with the car...u shouldnt add any oil by only using 1500 miles...i dont my oil change every 800-1000...and my oil is still clean and stays on the same level i put them in...considering that u only had 1qt of oil, if u do the oil change and the car runs fine...then ur ok...coz if theres someting wrong wit it, it should come out right away as soon as u do the oil change...dealership will just take ur money for nothing...if ur dumb enough to pay for it, they will be happy to take it...

what kind of oil you using...i kinda have the same problem...i was wondering why vtec wasnt engaging sometimes and i was like hmmm..so i checked the oil and it was about 1 -1.5 quarts short...i use mobil one and that shiznit burns a bit i here

 

Yeah-- i'm using mobile one Full synthetic-- i know i know, i didn't check my oil since the last time i changed it, which wasn't that long ago. I just assumed it would be okay.

 

dont use synthetic! thats not for high performance

 

before i got my engine rebuilt i used a lot of oil between services, i checked it regularly, but once i forgot to check it for a while and started the car one morning and it sounded really clattery like an old diesel, i stopped the engine and dipped it, and found that the oil was just showing on the very bottom of the dipstick. I topped it up and it took nearly 2 quarts to fill it again.

Did you not notice any odd noises/sounds being that low on oil, considering that there was basically no oil in the whole engine, and therefore nothing to lubricate moving parts, which would have left it sounding really clattery?

i have a oil pressure light from auto meter if any one wants it. that will warn u b4 u go empty.... btw didnt mean to jack the post

 

well if u didnt spend so much jackin-off to your new lip, maybe u wouldve noticed your oil was low.

that was a joke so dont take it too seriously


anyway, if u drive hard u should keep a close eye on your oil level especially when using synthetic. and that new mobil1 burns away like nothing. try switching to a different brand. i hear castrol synthetic doesnt burn as much.

 

i use valvoline 5-30 conventional and have had no problems...i change it about every 2,200 to 2,700 miles and very rarely ever have to add any in between changes....

 

mine started flashing on the way home from chicago...but it wasnt out of oil completely...needless to say i was quite paranoid the rest of the ride home

 

How and why do you say 1 qt? I mewan thats like 3 qts off the stick...

You have some serious issues w/ youe engine if this is the case.

And I think that the "boost" you are striving for will be the "bust" you're asking for...
