Illegal Smog?
All of you guys with cars that are way past a few modifications to be smog legal, how do you get your smog done? I really need to do this soon and short of taking my whole car apart or buying a similar Integra and swapping VINs, I really don't know what to do. I heard that illegal smogs go for over $250 nowadays. If you don't want to reply in a public forum, you can IM me. Thanks for your help...

Yeah, VIN swapping is too much work and it is unnecessary. Hook up with someone that can guarantee you results without taking the car completely apart.
Good luck with your search, if you can't find anyone, I can send you in the proper direction.

I feel you on that one, but it's really hard to find a ghetto shop around here that is a smog test place. Also my car is no where NEAR passing smog.

All vehicles can pass California emissions mandates regardless of engine or turbo modifications. Do not bring back your car to stock just to pass smog, that is unnecessary.

If I were you I would just pay that $250. Most shop won't do you illegal because there were lots of stings, unless you know them personally.
However, people have success putting ethanol (100%, not 70% stuff you got from Walgreen) in high amount to lower HC and CO to compensate for rich condition. Do an oil change right before smog and put in new plugs helps too.

Yes there has been alot of stings and there are very tough fines and consequences for both the smog techs and the vehicle owners. It is always better to work with someone you know and trust. Regarding the fuel additive, the additive we use to curtail and almost eliminate high HC and CO is called MTBE. It is comprised of Methanol, Toluene, Benzene and Ethanol. We use 12-17% MTBE to total volume of fuel. That alone will not solve the emissions issues, the MTBE with a piggybacked Standalone ECU will enable the tuner to dynotune the vehicle to meet and exceed the California emissions mandates.

I'm looking for a smog hook up as well.
Personally, once I get the smog check done and over with, I'm going to source out a clean stock LS motor (since my car was originally a LS) and just drop that guy in whenever smog comes around.
Swapping your motor isnt that hard. Sure, it's a sucky way to kill a weekend, but it'll pay for itself in the long run. Plus if you ever get popped (which is very likely, living here in so cal) and need to take a trip to a referee, you can just switch to the stocker. Another plus if you ever decide to sell the car, you can just sell it with a stock motor.
So yeah....we all need back up motors

About seeing a state referee you don't have to. Just go to court and pay the fine. I think mine was $107.00. Much easier that swaping motors. At least i think so.

Forreals. Anyhow. Becareful about going to a state ref. If you bring the car in and the ref does not pass it and you leave to take it to a shady place to pass.... Well...there might be an audit after that.
